Footy Maths Day

Spring is here and finals footy has begun! To celebrate, we are holding our annual Footy Maths Day on Thursday, September 18th.

Students are encouraged to wear their footy colours and include a number on their outfit. This could be on a jersey, taped onto their clothes, or even written on a piece of paper to hold on the day.

We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up and ready for a fun day of teamwork, learning and Kalinda spirit!

Foundation

PIZZA PARTY!

We have had a fabulous fortnight in Foundation. With thanks to our dads and special people for attending the Pizza Party in honour of Father’s Day and significant role models in the childrens’ lives. We all appreciate you.

We also enjoyed a very special visit from the Ambulance and Charlie’s mother who is a paramedic. This further supports our unit of study on our community and allowed the students to learn more about these significant members of the community, should they ever be required. Thank you to Charlie’s family for their generous support.

Grades 1 & 2

Splish, Splash, Success! – Grade 1/2 Swimming Week

What a week it has been for our Grade 1/2s at swimming! From nervous toes dipping into the water on Monday to confident strokes and bubbles by Friday, the progress has been nothing short of amazing.

We’ve seen fearless floaters, goggles worn upside down, swimmers and undies making a few escape attempts, and towel-wrapping becoming a competitive sport in itself.

Most importantly, our students showed determination, courage, and a whole lot of giggles as they worked on their swimming skills. A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers and teachers who braved the humidity of the pool and the organised chaos of the changerooms (the real endurance event of the week!).

Our Grade 1/2 swimmers should be so proud of themselves – what a splash-tacular week!

The Wizard of Oz Production Recount Writing

After our incredible production, the Grade 1/2 students eagerly shared their highlights of this very special occasion. Students wrote recounts by putting events in order, using time connective words like first and next, wrote in past tense, included the who, what, where, and when, and details to make it interesting.

Grades 3 & 4

In Grade 3/4, we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. Students have been identifying the features of shapes, such as edges, faces and vertices, and using this knowledge to classify different 3D objects. We have also been creating composite shapes by combining 2D shapes in new ways. The students have enjoyed hands-on activities and real-life examples to deepen their understanding of geometry.

Grades 5 & 6

What a busy and exciting term it’s been in Year 5/6 – and we’re not done yet, with our much-anticipated Anglesea camp still to come, promising a fantastic end to the term!

In Mathematics, our focus has been on shapes and angles. Students have been exploring a variety of 3D shapes, along with their nets and cross-sections. To bring our learning to life, we even used our bodies to form different shapes – a fun and interactive way to deepen our understanding!

In Literacy, we’ve turned our attention once again to narratives. Students have been consolidating their knowledge of narrative structure and the key features that make a story engaging. We've analysed mentor texts to better understand the importance of "show, don't tell" – a powerful technique for creating vivid images in the reader's mind. Now, our budding authors are putting it all into practice by writing and publishing their own imaginative narratives.

STEM

Term 3 has seen the students focused on Physical Science – Things that move.

The students have explored Isacc Newtons 3 Laws of Motions; the 1st Law an object will remain at rest or continue moving in a straight line at a constant speed unless unbalanced by an external force. The Second Law, net force on an object is equal to its mass multiplied by its accelerations and the Third Law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reactions. What goes up, must come down.

The Junior School students have explored the way objects move depends on a variety of factors including their size and shape, a push or a pull affects how an object moves or changes shape.
