Duke of Edinburgh

This year has seen a large group of students join the award and get involved. There has been two trips run to Bunyip State Park for over 60 students to get one of their Adventurous Journeys under their belts. Many a puff and complain occurred while they were transversing steep inclines or getting to the end of the 30km walk, but they overcame the challenge.
They all enjoyed the camping aspect even though facilities were limited to a drop loo and a bench. All the students slept in 2 person tents, which are snug but not exactly comfortable and so the number of hours sleeping was probably minimal.
Duke of Edinburgh is, however, not just about camping and our students have contributed to our school community and wider afield. In school they have supported Breakfast Club in the mornings and many other SRC events.
Outside of school our students are volunteering at their religious centres and charity shops. They are also taking part in sports teams, learning new skills like drawing and musical instruments.
While it does take time to complete, many students have achieved their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, and some have even signed up to complete Silver.
