From the Boarding Captains

Term Two has finally come to an end. Being so full of exams, music, sports and school, it's nice to have some time to relax at home with family and reflect on the many memories we have made this term.

Last weekend we had the Boarding Quiz Night. This evening was very much enjoyed with much laughter and fun. Some key moments were Craig Wiech singing the first 100 digits of pi, Rif’s amazing Mr Squiggle and Mr Donaldson’s hilarious role as MC. Congratulations to the Black team for winning, (we were so close Red team!) Thank you to all the Heads of Houses and the amazing Mrs Franzinelli for all the work you put into this night, it would not be possible without you, and we are so grateful. As one of my favourite nights on the Boarding calendar I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

In the past couple of weeks, we have had two music events featuring some of our very talented boarders performing to family and friends. The Music Review for students in Contemporary Music featured students in Years Eight to Ten. Congratulations to those students who participated in this performance as it was many students’ first time performing. The Years Eleven and Twelve music students preformed in the VET Show. This was our last performance before Radioactive which will be held at the Albany Entertainment Centre in August.

I hope everyone is now enjoying the calm after the stressful exam period. The Breaksea Zen Den has been constantly full of yoga and last-minute study.

Well done to the 28 boarders who represented our school at Country Week during the last week of term. I hope everyone has a great holiday and see you all in Term Three.

Wow, the end of the term is here, exams over and we now have a little less stress on our shoulders. Winter is officially here and it is classic Albany, being cold, windy, wet and miserable with the occasional sun. Boarders are rugged up to the max as the sea breeze comes in at night. Remember to keep good hygiene as small colds go around.

On Sunday 16 June we held the annual Quiz night with Boarders returning a bit earlier than normal to help set up the Hall. After last year’s success of Daniel Fisher and Hamish Medway being MC, we continued it with this year’s MC being Mr Paul Donaldson. With his loud dad voice and sense of humour, it gave some extra pizzazz for the night. The night consisted of five quiz rounds with extra games and activities to complete. This included naming WA towns that started with each letter of the alphabet and Heads or Tails. Everyone had a great time with multiple prizes that people won throughout the night.

Gratitude. What is it? Gratitude is the quality of being thankful and showing appreciation for the things in life.  This is a great quality to have as it makes you a better person and sometimes, we can forget to do it. We just need to take a minute to reflect and realise what wonderful people and a place we have here at boarding. They work tirelessly to keep us in line as well as get us out of the house to do fun activities. Next time you see a staff member remember to thank them for all the hard work they do.

I wish everyone a safe travel home and a well-deserved break from the 11-week term.
