Welcome back to our Mill Park Heights Community

Term 2 has begun with great positivity, and our students and staff are back in swing. Programs have been carefully planned and developed and the data collected at the end of term 1 is now being accessed to ensure your child starts from their point of need. This data along with the learning growth in term 2 will be collated in your child’s mid year school report. You will be able to share and discuss your child’s outcomes later this term at our 3 Way Conference on the 25th June.

We have a range of activities and events occurring this term and I ask you to check the school calendar dates to make sure you don’t miss any opportunities. I would like to thank the MPHPS families and community members who attended our ANZAC ceremony which was exceptionally led by our Year 5 students. We had a perfect day with all students, staff and community showing a solemn respect for the ANZAC soldiers. This was a highlight to begin the term.

Learning:

A core focus on phonics and grammar continue to play an important part of our morning learning routine and we are already seeing the great benefits of this focus. I do remind and ask you to ensure your child is at school and on time ready to start this vital learning. We have had some very informative posts in our newsletter about the learning approach at MPHPS and I encourage you to take the time to read about the approach we use to build your child’s learning growth and capabilities.

Wellbeing:

Our SWPBS targets and goals act as constant reminder to students in our school. Not only do these goals support our values, but they also focus on mini reminders such as toilet behaviours, walking between rooms and showing pride in our grounds. These reminders are highlighted in our newsletters and on display around our school. The values recognition points have supported our students who are doing the right thing and it is wonderful to be able to acknowledge these students who constantly strive to be proud members of our MPHPS community.

We’ve recently noticed a few situations where students have found it challenging to manage their emotions in interactions with their peers, and at times this has led to parents becoming involved in resolving concerns. While we understand that these situations can arise outside of school hours or at weekend events, we kindly ask that, when matters occur on school grounds, parents allow our staff to guide the discussions and any necessary mediation. Our staff are often aware of the broader context of student relationships and are well placed to support all involved, recognising that each child brings their own perspective to a situation. To respect the privacy and confidentiality of all students, we are unable to share specific consequences with other families. However, please be assured that all matters are addressed thoughtfully and appropriately, even if the outcomes are not always visible. We truly value the trust and support of our parent community and appreciate your partnership in allowing our staff and leaders to manage these situations with care and professionalism.
