Looking ahead to Term 4

Over the next few weeks, teachers will be involved in whole-day planning sessions as they prepare for Term 4. During this time, teaching teams work collaboratively to plan the learning experiences they would like to provide for students.

Teachers work through the relevant curriculum, identify the knowledge and skills students will develop, and consider how learning can be sequenced across the term. They also discuss assessment, resources and learning experiences that will support students to build their understanding and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

As part of this planning, teams will also explore our Term 4 throughlines of Community and Design and Creativity. These big ideas will help create connections across learning areas and encourage students to think beyond individual lessons.

Through Community, students will investigate how our community is managed through a range of structures and systems. These systems and structures are there to govern us, to protect our rights and promote safety, equity and a sense of belonging and responsibility. They will find out that our community relies on the roles of leaders, workers and producers to manage our resources and provide goods and services to meet our needs and wants as consumers.

Through Design and Creativity, students will explore how people use imagination, problem-solving and creative thinking to develop ideas, respond to challenges and create solutions. They will learn about how the arts is a tool for expression and through creative imaginative and inventive thinking, they will follow the design process (investigate, design, produce and evaluate) to innovate on designs.

These planning days provide valuable time for teachers to collaborate, share ideas and carefully design engaging and purposeful learning for the term ahead.
