Shining Bright in 1/2B

History Knowledge Rich Unit

In our knowledge rich unit this term we focussed on history. We explored how life has changed over time, beginning with the text My Place by Nadia Wheatley.

We then investigated how schools, cars and technology have changed from the past to the present, making comparisons between how people lived then and how we live today. We enjoyed a fun and engaging History incursion exploring the history of toys and how they have changed over time. We discovered some fascinating stories, including toys that were once only enjoyed by princes (Jack in the box) and others that were invented by accident (slinky). The children also had the opportunity to explore, play with and compare a variety of toys and games. Students in 1/2B did a fantastic job writing detailed recounts of our incursion, sharing the highlights and interesting things they discovered about the history of toys and games.

Multiplication and Division

In Maths this term, we have been learning about multiplication and division and part of this is making arrays. Arrays help us to organise and represent numbers. Students have been using rows and columns to create, describe and solve multiplication problems. We created our own array cities.

Think Boards

During our recent multiplication and division unit we also used think boards to support our learning. A multiplication think board is a visual graphic organiser that helps students understand a multiplication problem in different ways.

Indonesian Day

The students were super enthusiastic about Indonesian Day, proudly dressing in the colours of the Indonesian flag or red and black. They enjoyed learning about Indonesian culture through colouring their own batik designs and completing an Indonesia-themed word search. We discovered that Indonesia is made up of more than 17,000 islands and learned about some of the fascinating animals (Sumatran Tiger, Komodo Dragon & Orangutan) that call Indonesia home.

We still have lots of exciting events to look forward to, including Book Week, Father’s Day and Footy Colours Day. We can’t wait to see what the rest of Term 3 brings as we continue learning and growing together!
