Artist in Residence Yandell Walton to collaborate with Art Creative Practice students

Next term for Unit 2 Art Creative Practice, students will have the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Narrm/Melbourne based artist Yandell Walton as part of Area of Study 2 'The collaborative Creative Practice 2'. Yandell is a contemporary artist whose work encompasses projection, installation, and interactive digital media. She facilitates community development projects, workshops, and masterclasses in projection art, and has collaborated with community groups from refugee backgrounds, Indigenous communities and young people. Both Unit 2 Art Creative Practice classes will work with Yandell next semester to research, experiment and develop a Body of Work that explores student’s individual and collective ideas and issues they are interested in investigating. In preparation for this exciting Artist in Residence program students will view Yandell's current exhibition 'Human Effect' at Science Gallery in June and then hear an artist talk by Yandell to consider ways they would like to collaborate with her to experiment with artforms in the communication of individual ideas.

The exhibition we are visiting is called 'Human Effect' and employs new technologies to create a responsive public projection installation. This interactive installation reflects on the impact humans have on the natural environment. Yandell has become recognised for her immersive projection works that merge the actual and the virtual to investigate notions of impermanence in relation to environmental, social and political issues which will inspire student’s own personal investigations. Yandell’s work has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally and we are elated to have her join our rich Swinburne arts community. You can read more about Yandell’s art practice here:
