Principal's Message
Staff and students are back in the swing of things as we enter the second week of Term 3. There are already some big events on the calendar for this term, including parent/teacher interviews, Education Week, the Festival of Choral Music (Opera House Choir), the Stage 3 Canberra excursion and Book Week.
Public Education Week
Kindergarten students will celebrate '100 days of Kinder' from 10:30 this Tuesday, with open classrooms, dress up as 'what I want to be when I grow up', and cake. Year 1-6 students will welcome families into their classrooms from 10:00am on Monday 10 August, with an Education Week assembly following at 10:35.
Electives
We are currently finalising Tuesday afternoon electives for Years 1-6 for this semester.
Confirmed options in different stages so far include choir, dance, art, fitness, drama, media, cooking, STEM, gardening and peer support.
Below is a video filmed in the Stage 3 electronics elective. Students have been exploring the possibilities when combing electronic circuits with coding, and have created some very cool projects, including an electric guitar, interactive digital posters on famous shipping disasters and gaming controllers.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN student reports were received last week and distributed to families of Year 3 and 5 students. School performance data is not yet available to schools. This information will be shared via the newsletter once it becomes available.
School uniform discussion
Our SRC has now had the opportunity to provide feedback collected from their peers on our school white shirts. Issues consistently identified by the students include difficulty removing stains and transparency of fabric. Solutions commonly suggested included making the 'Friday shirt' part the Monday-Friday uniform, and designing a new shirt, with a blue base and Aboriginal design.
Our next steps are to investigate options with suppliers, then bring some proposed solutions to the SRC and our families.
Stage 2 excursion consultation
Families of students who will be in Stage 2 in 2027 have received a short survey via School Bytes, seeking feedback on the planned overnight camp to Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre. This survey has been distributed in response to rising costs associated with school camps, and with the purpose of ensuring our excursion offerings and expenses are in line with community expectations. If you received this survey, please take a moment to complete it and help us provide appropriate options for our students.
