College Production 2023

In week 6 of this term, 144 talented students and a bunch of amazing staff presented this year’s production of Matilda the Musical JR. The students performed 5 shows to public audiences throughout last week and did an incredible job, with bundles of positive feedback from all those who came to watch.

Standout moments included Bruce eating an entire chocolate cake on stage, the magic of chalk drawing itself on the blackboard, and some absolutely outstanding vocals and characters in one of our strongest cast teams yet!

We would like to thank all the students, staff, and helpers who put in all the extra time to make this show happen, as well as all the family and friends as their support is hugely appreciated. Another special thank you to all the year 12s who are sadly leaving us this year, we appreciate all that you have contribute, we will miss you!

To the cast and crew of 2023, congratulations!

If you missed the show this year, there is one more opportunity for you to see some of these students shine… Read about Schools on Stage below!

MUSICIAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (MDP) NEWS

Masterclass with Rob Mills

Students in MDP and Production were treated to an amazing masterclass session with Melbourne theatre and performer legend Rob Mills recently in the theatre. Rob was incredibily generous with his time and gave the students insights into his journey as a musician and performer, staying on top of being healthy and how this helps his craft as a performer, preparing for audtions and what it’s like being in an audition – including how to walk in! His approach to explaining his work and approch to the students was excellent, down to earth and combined with some humour, made for an incredible afternoon enjoyed by all.

Rob, of course, performed some work for the students and showcased his ability to sing in character (theatre) as well as sing pop songs. He also took the time to give some performance advice to our own Gauri Singh and Saskia Kirby who performed short renditions of some songs for the masterclass and received personalised on the spot feedback from Rob. This was truly fantastic to see and from all the feedback I’ve received, the students really got a lot out of this masterclass. These sessions allow students to get up close and personal with some of Melbourne’s finest musicians/performers and ask questions, see how it’s done. I’m looking forward to more amazing Masterclasses in the future. The music staff get a lot out of these sessions as PD too!
