Pancakes, Ashes & Eggs - Lent at Lakeside

From last week, Christians around the world began the season of Lent — the 40 days leading up to Easter. This is a time to prepare to remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter. A number of meaningful events have been happening in the life of the College as we journey through Lent together.

Pancakes for Purpose

Shrove Tuesday saw us host Pancakes for Purpose, a wonderful community event where staff lovingly cooked pancakes to raise money for Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS). ALWS is the overseas aid and development organisation of the Lutheran Church of Australia. The funds raised will support children in receiving an education they might not otherwise have access to.

We look forward to continuing to raise funds for this important cause throughout the year, aiming to support 75 students in honour of ALWS' 75th anniversary. A big thank you to everyone who came along, donated, and supported this community event.

Ash Wednesday

As we do each year, the Lakeside College community gathered as a whole to mark Ash Wednesday. Our Student Leaders, from both the Primary and Secondary schools, did a wonderful job leading various aspects of the service, including distributing ashes to those who wished to receive them.

Ashes have long been a symbol of repentance — a way of saying sorry to God — and are used to mark the start of the Lenten season.

Resurrection Eggs

As part of preparations for Easter, homerooms throughout the school have been invited to use Resurrection Eggs. Twice per week, classes reveal a symbol that tells part of the Holy Week story, from Palm Sunday to Easter Day. This meaningful activity helps us learn and reflect on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus as we prepare to celebrate Easter during the school holidays.

May God bless you and your family.
