Principal's message

Hello Alvie families,

Welcome to Issue 1 of the 2026 Alvie Primary School Newsletter.

It has been such a joy getting to know the wonderful students here at Alvie Primary School. I am absolutely thrilled to be joining this community and it was great to meet the families who were available to come to the Welcome BBQ. Students have returned to school calm, settled and ready to learn, which really reflects the strong culture that already exists at Alvie.

For the last 3 years, I have been at Colac Secondary College. When I shared that I was coming to Alvie, I was met with so many positive comments and stories about the school. Alvie Primary School is well respected across the Colac region, and I feel very proud to be leading a school with such a strong reputation. I’m looking forward to continuing to build strong connections and supporting excellent learning for every student.

My favourite learning areas are Mathematics and Science. I love helping students understand how the world around them works, and these subjects provide wonderful opportunities for curiosity, problem-solving and thinking deeply. I have taught across all year levels, from Prep through to Year 12, and have also led schools in strengthening teaching practice to support high-quality learning in every classroom. I recently attended a local schools meeting where the focus was on 'Bush Learning". As Bush Play is currently part of our curriculum, I am keen to see how this colloboration will evolve and deepen our childrens experinece of the outdoors and the natural world. 

 At Alvie, my focus is on creating a school where every child feels safe, known and supported to do their best learning. I value strong partnerships with families and our local community and look forward to getting to know you all as we begin the year together. Please feel free to stop by and say hello — I’m always happy to chat. We are once again hosting the Polwarth Sports Day on Friday 27th February.  Hope to see you there!
