5-6 Class
(Ms Murphy)
Dear 5/6 Families,
Welcome back. I have been very fortunate to spend the past few weeks working with your children and I am enormously proud of the way they have settled into the year. They have been welcoming, kind, friendly and full of humour, which has made our classroom a lovely place to be each day.
We have certainly hit the ground running and have been working hard across all areas of the curriculum.
A huge congratulations to all students who participated in the leadership process. They wrote thoughtful applications and delivered speeches in front of the school community. I was bursting with pride as I watched them speak with confidence and courage. Many felt nervous, but recognised that nerves are normal and showed great resilience by giving it their best.
In Literacy, we are deeply engaged in War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. Students are developing their language skills through explicit vocabulary learning, practising appositives in their writing, and responding to texts using a Point, Evidence and Explanation structure. They have shown real grit and positivity as they work towards writing longer, more detailed paragraphs.
In Mathematics, we are focusing on whole number concepts, including place value, multiples and factors, building strong foundations through clear and structured learning experiences.
Our teaching approach has been grounded in explicit instruction, careful scaffolding and gradual release, ensuring that students are well supported as they develop confidence and independence in their learning.
Thank you for your ongoing support and communication. I look forward to meeting many of you this evening at our Open Classroom and BBQ.
