St Vinnies Winter Appeal
As we head into the cooler months approaching winter, we have much to be grateful for.
A roof over our heads, a warm bed at night, lighting, heating, and an evening meal.
As we know, not everyone is so fortunate.
The Nazareth College Winter Appeal aims to alleviate stress for families in need by providing essential household items, including non-perishable food and basic toiletries.
Whilst the winter appeal is coordinated by the Vinnies Team, they cannot do it alone.
We want students to donate proudly and loudly.
Over the next few weeks, every student is asked to bring donations and place them in the boxes located in each Pastoral classroom.
This year, we are asking senior students from Years 10-12 to donate toiletries, while Years 7-9 donate non-perishable food items. Please consider donating a meal rather than a single item, such as a packet of pasta and a jar of sauce, or a carton of long-life milk with some cereal. Every item donated is greatly appreciated by a real person who has nothing.
All donations go directly to people with needs in our wider community, distributed by our local St Vincent De Paul group.
Reconciliation Week
27 May to 3 June is National Reconciliation Week. These are important dates in Australia’s history. May 27 marks the anniversary of the 1967 referendum when Australians voted to remove clauses in the Australian Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. June 3 marks the historic 1992 Mabo decision in which the High Court of Australia recognised native title—the recognition that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights over their lands did survive British colonisation.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
For all of us, may we continue to take action on Reconciliation so that our Nazareth College community can be one that truly values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Holy Family of Nazareth – Be our inspiration and our guide.
Jesus of Nazareth – Help us to grow in faith, wisdom and knowledge.
