Director of Music

An energetic term 

As the term draws to a close, it’s a wonderful moment to reflect on the energy, growth, and achievements that have filled our Music rooms over the past weeks. From exciting debut performances that saw many students take to the stage for the very first time, to an inspiring visit from Dr Legg from the University of Tasmania who shared his expertise and passion, our community has continued to flourish in both confidence and creativity.

A particular highlight was our excursion to hear the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, an experience that brought classroom learning to life and offered a powerful reminder of the joy and impact of live performance. Opportunities like these not only deepen musical understanding but also spark new ambition in our young musicians.

As we head into the break, we encourage everyone to take some well-earned time to rest and recharge. We look forward to welcoming students back next term, refreshed, inspired, and ready to make music together once again.

Grade 5 and Grade 6 Band

It has been a busy term for the Junior School Bands with the debut performance for Grade 5 and learning to play more advanced music for Grade 6. Practice sheets will continue to be used in Term 2. I will ask all band students to hand in their practice sheets towards the end of next term so that their home practice time can be consolidated prior to Mid-Year Reports.

Bandsman of the Week

Students who are named as Bandsman of the Week demonstrate exemplary behaviour during rehearsals and tutorials, bring all of the necessary equipment on Mondays (instrument, music folder, and practice sheet), and have demonstrated a dedicated home practice schedule. Congratulations to Alfie Wojcik in Grade 5 and Cooper Puglisi in Grade 6 for being recognised as Bandsman of the Week.

2027 Music Scholarships

Thank you to the Grade 6 students who have applied for 2027 Music Scholarships. An audition date has been set and you will soon receive further information regarding the audition and how to prepare for the day. Junior Rock Band Performance

Congratulations to the Junior Rock Band who were generous enough to present an open rehearsal at the Senior School. The band drew a small crowd on the Music Room balcony who enjoyed watching the students rehearse and work with Mr Pregnell and Mr Park.
