Holy Family Word Collectors
The Word Collector By Peter Reynolds is an absolute delight for both children and adults alike.
Welcome back to Term 2!!!
Over the last 2 weeks it has been lovely chatting to the students about what they did on their holidays and it was just fabulous listening to the excited chatter of the different activities that took place.
I was so pleased to hear that so many of our Gr 2 students went and saw the Magic Faraway Tree. Children were able to compare and contrast the differences between the movie and the book that has been read during class time. Well done!!!
This term our whole school will become Word Collectors. As I have written about in an earlier newsletter the development of ‘’vocabulary’’ is crucial in the development of our children being active participants in society.
All grades this term will be true detectives in searching for and understanding words in all areas of the curriculum. Our classroom teachers will delve deeply into the words meaning, morphology, spelling and context.
On a Thursday each class will vote on the word that they really enjoyed learning about, using in their written work and sprinkling into their conversations.
These words will then be placed into a treasure chest and one word will be drawn out at Assembly as the ‘’Winning Word”. Look out for the winning word in the following newsletter.
All words will be displayed just outside the Library…A Treasure Trove of Words!!!
