Bullying No Way
Small Acts, Big Impact
During Week 6 from, 17 - 21 August, our students and staff came together to recognise Bullying No Way Week, with a focus on kindness, respect, inclusion and the positive impact that small acts can have on others.
Throughout the week, students were encouraged to look for opportunities to show kindness to their peers and staff, with acts of kindness recognised through our Kindness Raffle. It was fantastic to see so many raffle tickets being earned across the week, highlighting the many positive interactions taking place across our College.
The final day of the week was celebrated with students and staff adding a splash of purple to their uniform through purple socks, scrunchies, ribbons, lanyards and other accessories. 💜
The week concluded with a lunchtime BBQ, providing an opportunity for students to come together and celebrate while continuing to demonstrate kindness and respect.
A big thank you went to everyone who participated in the activities and helped make Bullying No Way Week a success. The enthusiasm and positive actions demonstrated throughout the week showed how small acts really could make a big impact.
Together, we continued to reinforce our message that bullying was not tolerated and that every member of our College community had a role to play in creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
National Science Week
National Science Week provided students at Morwell Campus with a fantastic opportunity to explore Science beyond the classroom through a range of engaging, hands-on lunchtime activities.
This year’s theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All, encouraged students to be curious, ask questions, make observations and discover the Science behind the world around them.
Throughout the week, students took part in activities designed to spark curiosity and demonstrate that Science can be fun, interactive and relevant to everyday life.
🥤 Monday - Explosive Experiments
The week began with a spectacular Mentos and Coke experiment on the oval.
Students watched as dropping Mentos into a carbonated drink created a dramatic geyser of foam. The experiment demonstrated how the rough surface of the Mentos provides tiny sites where dissolved carbon dioxide can rapidly escape from the soft drink, resulting in the impressive reaction.
It was a simple but exciting way to explore the Science behind a phenomenon many students may have seen online or tried themselves.
🌱 Tuesday - Seeds, Plants and Scientists
Students then put their knowledge to the test with two interactive challenges.
In Match the Seed to the Plant, students examined different seeds and worked to identify which plants they would grow into. The activity encouraged students to make observations and consider how a seed's characteristics can provide clues about the plant it produces.
Students also had the opportunity to Match the Scientist to Their Name, learning more about some of the people whose discoveries and contributions have helped shape our understanding of the world.
Together, these activities highlighted how scientific knowledge grows through observation, investigation and the work of scientists across generations.
🦖 Wednesday - Journey Back in Time
Students travelled millions of years into the past with a dinosaur documentary, which provided an opportunity to explore the fascinating world of dinosaurs and consider how scientists use evidence, fossils and scientific investigation to understand life that existed long before humans.
🧬 Thursday - Discovering DNA
One of the highlights of the week was a hands-on DNA extraction activity where students explored the fascinating molecule that carries the genetic instructions for living organisms and had the opportunity to extract DNA and observe it firsthand.
The activity provided a practical connection between classroom learning and the microscopic processes that make life possible.
🧠 Friday - Science Meets Creativity
The week finished with a combination of knowledge, creativity and friendly competition.
Students challenged their Science knowledge through Science Blooket, putting their understanding to the test in an interactive quiz format.
They also created Science word bracelets that combines creativity with scientific vocabulary and concepts.
From explosive reactions and seeds to dinosaurs, DNA and scientific challenges, National Science Week at Morwell Campus demonstrated the incredible variety of Science.
A huge thank you to our Science teachers and Lab Technicians for creating these engaging opportunities and helping our students discover the excitement of Science.
KAAP
Kurnai Aspiring Athletes Program
Gippsland Tech School Excursion
The Morwell Campus KAAP students recently explored the exciting intersection of athletic performance, sport and technology, discovering how innovation is changing the way athletes train, compete and perform.
The day began with an exploration of the evolution of sports technology, from simple innovations such as anti-wave pool gutters to sophisticated wearable sensors used by elite athletes. Students then put their learning into practice through three hands-on sessions, where they:
- Explored how biometric sensors can monitor and measure peak performance
- Investigated how gamification can make physical activity more engaging
- Built their own sports sensors while learning about the hardware, limitations and challenges behind modern sporting technology
To wrap up the day, students put their critical-thinking skills to the test in a lively debate about the ethics of technology in sport. They considered important questions around data privacy, equal access to high-tech equipment and when technology might cross the line into an unfair competitive advantage.
It was an action-packed and insightful day that gave our aspiring athletes a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the technology shaping modern sport and a behind-the-scenes perspective on every run, jump, train, and game they compete!
AFL Excursion
On the 6th of August, the KAAP students from across both the Morwell and Churchill campuses enjoyed an exciting day out at Marvel Stadium watching the Western Bulldogs take on North Melbourne!
It was a fantastic opportunity for our aspiring athletes to experience the atmosphere of a live AFL match, enjoy some great football and share the experience with their fellow KAAP students.
A huge thank you to the Western Bulldogs for their ongoing partnership and generous ticket allocation. Opportunities like these create unforgettable experiences for our students and provide valuable opportunities to connect with the sporting community.
