Northern Star Chess Tournament
Last week, King’s College put together a team of 15 students ranging from Year 7 to Year 12 to compete at the Northern Star Chess Secondary Open Zonal Tournament.
The tournament was held at Emmanuel College, with 8 schools participating. The competition was run at a tough level with a wide array of talents and skills. Our students represented the school very well through their conduct and effort.
Our King’s team came 5th overall! Well done to all and a special congratulations to Danny A (Gold) and Matthew P (Bronze), who perfomed extra well and made it into the age group placings. Everyone did very well and should all be very proud of themselves for having a go and having a fun time!

Year 7 Science
The Year 7 Science class has been engaged in a project of caring for newborn Lambs whose mothers are not feeding them. The class has studied the composition of the Profelac milk replacement powder and designed a feeding roster for recess and lunch.
“Something that I've found interesting about the lambs is that the milk we give them contains protein, fat, and lactose, which are all an essential part of their diet because they are so young.” - Stella
“I have learned how much formula is needed to keep them strong and healthy.” - Maisie
“I like when the lambs come up to me and give me a cuddle after they have had their milk.” - Caitlyn
Since the Lambs are newborn, feeding them can be tricky:
“Feeding the lambs is sometimes pretty annoying because they start walking around while they are still drinking. Something I learned is that lambs need protein and fat to help their stomachs and muscles form.” - Jesse
Ashley summarised:
“Lambs are something I grew up with and for me, the ability to learn more and share my knowledge about lambs with others is something I love. Fat, protein, lactose, minerals, vitamins and colostrum are in the mother’s first milk to give the lamb a boost in life and help their immune system be strong enough to fight illness and infection. I’ve loved being on the feeding roster and enjoy being around our three little lambs.”

Year 9 Community Service
This week, our Year 9 class went to Opal Healthcare Warrnambool for their community service! Our students had lots of fun participating in National Cowboy Day, dressing up, practicing our Nerf war skills and making friendships with all the residents.

Year 9/10 Textiles
Our Textiles class has been busy creating beautiful felt, hand-embroidered sweet treats! Students have been showcasing the hand embroidery stitches they have learned this term to design and create a stuffed sweet treat of their choice.
It has been wonderful to see fantastic skills develop, with some students learning embroidery for the very first time while others have built on and refined their existing techniques. The creativity and attention to detail have been outstanding!
Our next project is an exciting one with a real purpose. Students will be making cutlery wraps for each of our Year 9 students to use on their upcoming Trek Adventure. This project will introduce students to using the sewing machine while also encouraging sustainable practices by repurposing leftover cotton fabric.
