PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION DAY

Last Friday, it was with great joy that we celebrated and acknowledged our three outstanding school leaders, Mr Flynn, Mrs Daley and Mrs Scott, on "Principal and Assistant Principal Appreciation Day". 

Our day began with some lovely words at assembly from our school captains Max and Stella. Balloons and a picnic basket filled with gifts and goodies were then presented by a delightful trio ......."Mini Flynny" (Harry Edgecock), "Mini Daley" (Frankie Single) and "Mini Scott" (Georgia Woolaston). And what fun they had afterwards during their little photo shoot!

On behalf of our whole school community, we say an enormous thank you to Pete, Katie and Amanda for their tireless work, dedicated commitment and fine leadership. Your job is incredibly demanding, yet you turn up every day with a smile and a high five, continuing to to make St Nicholas the best school possible.  How blessed are we all to have you at the helm of St Nicholas. 

MANNERS MATTER. Great news.... huge improvements already!

In our last Newsletter we shared some worrying data about our students' use of manners, yet just two weeks on we are delighted to share that huge improvements are already being noted.

Mrs Harding in the Canteen has reported that 95% of students are now showing eye contact, using her name and using words such as "please" and "thank you" without needing a reminder. She is also noticing that with manners, comes smiles. Our Office ladies are also reporting an enormous improvement. Unprompted, we now have 85% of students using words such as "excuse me", "may I..." "please" and "thank you". 

Our work in this space will be ongoing, and we will continue to have these high expectations at St Nicholas. The lanyards our staff are wearing are continuing to be a powerful reminder for the students. 

We thank our parents for supporting us with this and for having the same high expectations of your children at home, at sport, on the bus, at friends' houses, out and about in the community......everywhere! As we say: "Manners Matter all of the time, not just some of the time!"

Below is our current focus; next week we will be building on this even further.

ICAS TESTING

ICAS testing continues over the upcoming weeks. Below is the schedule for the students in Yr 4- 6 who have enrolled. NB: Students who are sitting the Spelling test will need to bring their headphones.

NEW OFFICE FRIENDS

Subject: 🚨 URGENT: Two New (Googly-Eyed) Team Members Need Names! 🐠👀

Hey St Nicholas,

We are thrilled to announce that our office family has expanded! We have adopted two slightly confused-looking, black googly-eyed goldfish.

They are currently settling into their new aquatic setup, but they are suffering from a severe identity crisis: they don't have names yet.

Since they'll be handling high-stress tasks like staring blankly into space, swimming in tiny circles, and silently judging our daily coffee intake, we need your help giving them the quirkiest, funniest names possible.

A GENTLE REMINDER: PLEASE KEEP TOYS AND COLLECTIBLES AT HOME

We need your help with a quick reminder regarding personal items brought in from home, specifically promotional collectibles such as Woolworths Ooshies, cards, and other small toys.

While we love seeing the children’s excitement around these items, they have recently caused a few disruptions during the day. We are experiencing ongoing issues with items being lost, misplaced, or swapped and traded among peers, which often leads to upset feelings and disagreements.

To keep our focus on learning and play, and to ensure no special belongings are lost or damaged, we kindly ask that all personal toys and collectibles remain at home.

Thank you so much for your understanding, cooperation, and ongoing support.

LOST PROPERTY

As you can see from the photos below, we are having an increasingly growing problem with Lost Property at St Nicholas.  Whilst staff very regularly attempt to sort and return belongings, we are finding that the majority of these items have not been labelled.  We are asking for your support in ensuring that every single item of clothing, lunch containers, drink bottles etc are clearly labelled. As parents and teachers, it is important that we not only encourage our children to take responsibility for their belongings, but also to be independent in seeking to locate items should they be misplaced.  We appreciate your support with this. 

WINTER UNIFORM

All students are now expected to be in their full winter uniform. Please note that this includes a tie and a hat. 

VERITAS AWARDS

Our Veritas Awards stem from our school motto - ‘Veritas’ - meaning truth. The Veritas Award is awarded to students who have been consistently displaying citizenship, leadership and/or Christian Living. Students receiving a Veritas Award are those students who have displayed our ‘Rules for Living’ in their everyday interactions. We announce our Veritas award recipients at Friday morning assemblies every fortnight. Congratulations to Isaac Cantos, Dakota Green, Paddy Walsh, Hague Hurrell, Harry Fox, William Davidson, Lacie Collett, Olivia Scott, Reese Moore. 

PUPIL FREE DAYS

SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS

Supervision of students does not begin until 8.15 am each day.

St Nicholas School gates will not be open until the arrival of the first school bus at 8.15 am. It is not appropriate for children to be at school before this time with no supervision. 

If your child/children require care before 8.15 am, we recommend contacting Esteem Kids Before and After School Care, which operates on the grounds of St Nicholas School.
