Dear St Nicholas Community we are looking for your support,
At St Nicholas Primary School, we instruct students that "Manners Matter". How we speak to one another, the words we choose, and the everyday courtesies we extend lay the foundation for our entire school culture. Small acts - a warm "good morning," a sincere "please" and "thank you," or holding a door open - set a standard of consideration that helps everyone feel connected and included.
Starting this term, you might have noticed our staff wearing lanyards that serve as a reminder to our whole school community about the importance of using our manners.
Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on asking a follow up question after you greet someone. The idea is that we leave a person with a little more than they were expecting from a conversation. It would be greatly appreciated if these conversations could also be modelled at home.
Our approach aligns directly with the Living Well, Learning Well framework across the Diocese of Armidale. Central to this framework are three fundamental Rules for Living. When we model and teach good manners, we actively bring the second rule to life. Using respectful language shows our children that everyone in our community deserves to be treated with dignity and unconditional positive regard. It reassures every child that they are deserving of respect and esteem, while helping them learn to display that same consideration for others.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us at home by reinforcing these simple, powerful habits. When school and home work together to remind our children that manners matter, we build a supportive, respectful community where every student can thrive.

Last Friday, Katie Daley, Amanda Scott and myself were provided some helpers for the day as a way of celebrating Principal’s and Assistant Principal’s Day. They did an amazing job keeping our office under control while we had a lovely morning tea.
