World Cup Fever Comes to SKiPPS!
To help celebrate the excitement of the FIFA World Cup currently taking place across the United States, Canada and Mexico, we are inviting students to join in a special World Cup-themed day this Friday, 26th June.
Students are encouraged to come dressed in the colours of the team they are supporting. Whether that's the green and gold of the Socceroos, the colours of another nation competing in the tournament, or a favourite football jersey, we'd love to see our school community embracing the spirit of this global sporting event.
As an extra treat, we will also be showing the Socceroos' crucial World Cup match against Paraguay at 12:00pm. Students who would like to watch the game will have the opportunity to do so, cheer on Australia and experience the excitement of international sport together with their classmates.
Events such as the World Cup provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many cultures and nationalities that make up our school community, while also bringing people together through a shared love of sport.
We look forward to seeing a sea of colours across the school and hope it provides a fun and memorable way to round off a fantastic Term 2.
Go Socceroos!
Year 4-6 Swimming Program Update
Our Year 4-6 students have made a fantastic start to their swimming program at MSAC this week. It has been wonderful to see students developing their swimming skills, building confidence in the water and embracing the opportunity to learn in a different environment.
A particular highlight has been the outstanding way our students have represented SKiPPS, both at MSAC and while travelling to and from the pool by tram each day. Staff at the centre have once again commented on the positive attitude, excellent behaviour and respectful manner demonstrated by our students throughout the program. We are incredibly proud of the way they have conducted themselves and represented our school community.
Water Safety Day Reminder - Thursday
Tomorrow's lesson will focus on water safety. As part of this session, the Year 4-6 students are asked to wear some light clothing over their bathers while participating in the lesson. A t-shirt and shorts that can get wet are ideal, although pyjamas are also perfectly suitable.
Thank you to our students, staff and families for helping make the program such a success. We look forward to another great day of learning tomorrow as students continue to develop these important lifelong skills.
Lost Property - Last Chance Before the Holidays!
Our lost property collection has grown to truly impressive proportions over the course of the term, with a large number of unnamed jumpers, jackets, hats, drink bottles and other items currently waiting to be reunited with their owners.
We encourage all families to take a few moments before the end of term to check the lost property racks, which are located near the Community Pantry and piano area, adjacent to the Year 3 classrooms off the quadrangle.
Any unclaimed items remaining at the end of the term will be donated to charity during the school holidays to free up space for next semester's collection.
A reminder that clearly labelling all uniform items, lunch boxes and drink bottles with your child's name makes it much easier for lost items to find their way back home.
Thank you for your assistance, and we look forward to seeing a few more empty lost property racks before the end of the week!
Final Day assembly 9:10am
Families are warmly invited to join us for our final assembly of Term 2 this Friday, 26th June.
Please note that, due to our Years 4-6 Swimming Program and our early finish at 2:30p(see below), assembly will take place at the start of the school day rather than at its usual time.
Students will head to their classrooms when they arrive at school, put away their bags and have the roll marked before we come together for assembly at 9:10am.
Our final assembly for the term will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of our students throughout Term 2. We will enjoy a range of musical performances and recognise the learning, effort and successes that have taken place across the school over the past ten weeks.
We look forward to welcoming families who are able to join us for this special end-of-term celebration.
Last day early finish 2:30pm
A reminder to all families that Term 2 concludes this Friday, 26th June, with students finishing school at 2:30pm.
We ask families to please make arrangements to collect their children one hour earlier than our usual finishing time.
For families requiring after-school care, TeamKids will be operating as normal from 2:30pm and will be available to supervise students until their usual collection time.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff and families for a wonderful Term 2 and wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break.
We look forward to welcoming students back for the start of Term 3 on Tuesday 14th July.
Curriculum Day - Monday 13th July
The first day of Term 3, Monday 13th July, is a Curriculum Day. Students are not required to attend school on this day, with classes resuming on Tuesday 14th July.
Staff will be using the day to undertake professional learning focused on the Department of Education's School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS) framework.
SWPBS is an evidence-based approach used in schools across Australia and internationally to create safe, positive and inclusive learning environments. Rather than focusing only on responding to inappropriate behaviour, SWPBS helps schools proactively teach, model and reinforce the behaviours they want to see. The framework supports schools to develop clear expectations for students, create consistent responses across classrooms and playgrounds, and use data to identify areas where additional support may be required.
As part of our ongoing work to strengthen student wellbeing, engagement and behaviour, we are looking forward to exploring how elements of SWPBS may complement and enhance the positive culture that already exists at SKiPPS.
For families requiring care on Monday 13th July, TeamKids will be operating a full-day holiday program. Families wishing to access this service should book directly with TeamKids via their usual booking process.
Students will resume class on Tuesday 14th July at 9am.

Susan Bishop
Recently we farwelled Susan Bishop, who retired after 37 years working at SKiPPS and leaving behind an unforgettable legacy on the thousands of children who were lucky enough to work with her.
Below she has passed on a messsage for the school community;
My time at SKiPPS has finally come to an end and I want to thank the community so much for welcoming me into your lives over the last 37 years.
I'm lucky enough to say that many of the SKiPPS' families have become lifelong and treasured friends. Every child I have ever taught has left an indelible impression on me and will never be forgotten.
My farewell was beautiful and I was so grateful to see past and present families there. Arden, your sign was so touching and I will keep it for ever.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make it for me. Thank you also to each child who made a farewell card for me. Each one is in my special memories' album. To all the children who contributed to my beautiful butterfly artwork, it hangs in my bedroom and is the first thing I see when I wake up each morning. I love it so much and you could not have given me a better farewell present.
5/6's, thank you so much for spending time with me and sharing your memories during my visit. Being with you in the BER felt like coming home. It was very special!
Not a day has ever gone by where I haven't looked forward to coming to school and being with my children. Thank you all for being you! Each one of you is perfect and I know you will all achieve amazing things.
Working in such a wonderful community has been such a blessing. Thank you to the many families who have entrusted their children to me over the years...what a massive privilege it has been.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Susan
Support SKiPPS and Receive a Tax Deduction
As we approach the end of the financial year, many families are beginning to organise their tax affairs and book appointments with their accountant. This can be a timely opportunity to consider making a donation to St Kilda Park Primary School's Building Fund or Library Fund.
Donations to both funds are fully tax deductible and provide a valuable way to support our school while also reducing your taxable income. Contributions to these funds help us maintain and improve our facilities, enhance learning spaces, and continue to invest in resources that benefit all students.
Every donation, large or small, makes a meaningful difference and helps us provide the high-quality learning environment that our community values so highly.
If you would like to make a donation, or simply discuss how our Building and Library Funds operate, please contact Nova Whitehead, our Business Manager, at nova.whitehead@education.vic.gov.au or call the school office on 8589 6444. Tax-deductible receipts will be provided for all donations.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school and our students.
