Mid-year reports and Parent Teacher interview

Tomorrow afternoon, families will be able to access their child's Semester One report via Compass. A notification will be sent out when reports go live.
School reports provide an important opportunity to reflect on learning, celebrate achievements and identify the next steps for growth. While reports are just one part of understanding a child's progress, they offer valuable information about how students are tracking against the Victorian Curriculum and help strengthen the partnership between home and school.
When reviewing your child's report, you will notice that it provides information about their achievement against the Victorian Curriculum progression points in English and Mathematics. These progression points allow families to see whether their child is currently working at, above or below the expected standard for their age and year level. Where applicable, the report also shows the learning growth your child has made since their previous report.
In addition to academic achievement, the report includes teacher judgements relating to your child's work habits, including their effort, behaviour and organisation. These ratings provide insight into the learning behaviours and dispositions students demonstrate each day in the classroom and are important indicators of their overall success at school.
Families will also find information about their child's attendance and punctuality.
Attendance remains one of the strongest predictors of student success. Regular attendance supports academic achievement, social connection, wellbeing and the development of positive learning habits. A student with an attendance rate below 90% is considered to be experiencing chronic absenteeism, which equates to missing approximately one day of school every fortnight.
Over the course of a child's education, this can add up to more than a year and a half of lost learning. If your child's attendance has fallen below this benchmark during Semester One, we encourage you to work closely with us to improve attendance during the second half of the year.
Families will notice that this semester's reports do not include the written teacher comments that have traditionally accompanied reports. This is a result of industrial action undertaken by members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) as part of their campaign to secure improved salaries and conditions for teachers and education support staff across Victoria. As part of this industrial action, members were directed not to complete written report comments.
While we acknowledge that the absence of written comments changes the format of the report, we respect and support the right of staff to participate in lawful industrial action and recognise the important work being undertaken to advocate for a strong and sustainable government school system. I would also like to sincerely thank our families for the understanding and support they have shown throughout this period.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Importantly, while written comments are not included, meaningful feedback about your child's learning remains available through our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews. These conversations will play an especially important role this semester and provide families with the opportunity to gain the detailed, personalised information that would normally be communicated through teacher comments.
Parent Teacher Interviews will take place during the first week of Term 3 and bookings are now open through Compass. During these interviews, teachers will discuss your child's progress, strengths, areas for continued growth, engagement in learning and goals for the second half of the year. Families will also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any aspect of their child's report.
We strongly encourage all families to make a booking and take advantage of this valuable opportunity to connect with their child's teacher. Interviews are an important part of our partnership with families and help ensure that every child receives the support, challenge and encouragement they need to thrive.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we can continue to ensure that every child at St Kilda Park Primary School is known, challenged and supported to achieve their very best.
