Visual Art

All grades are busy finishing off their ‘Crazy Camel’ art pieces and completing unfinished projects. All year levels, except for Grade Prep, have been given the opportunity to do a free choice art piece for their ‘Crazy Camel’. The students are very excited to create an individual piece about their favourite things, and this is a great opportunity for the students to use some of the techniques we have covered in class. This year the Grade Prep students have completed a self-portrait for their art piece.

Grade Prep

Over the next two weeks we will be experimenting with water soluble textas, water and coffee filters. We will be using a technique where we will create a colourful ‘tie dye’ effect onto the filters. These will be layered together to create the body of some fun jelly fish. The students have loved seeing the water colour textas dissolve and blend together to create amazing patterns.

Grade 1 & 2’s

This week we are studying an abstract artist and looking at layering painted papers. These will form giant sized flowers for the art show. The grade 1 students will also be finishing off their 3D birds out of recycled cardboard.

Grade 3/4

The Grade 3/4’s are putting the final touches on their various retro art pieces and getting ready to start their last piece for the term. Once all their tasks are finished, we will move onto a botanical abstract piece using paint and paint markers.

Grade 5/6

This week we finished our zentangle art pieces and once all students are finished, we will move onto a fun ‘Penguins with Personality’ project. Some early finishers were lucky enough to make an interesting paint brush person using paint and magi clay. The students had so much fun creating these!

We are looking for…..

We are looking for full sized Coles, Aldi and Woolworths paper bags. These will be deconstructed and turned into portfolios for each student to use to take home their amazing artworks for the year!

Performing Arts 

The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts

Prep: Students have continued learning about the elements of drama and acting. The focus has remained on the different ways we can use our voice e.g. pitch, tone, volume and emotion. Students have been enjoying creating characters and stories with both finger and hand puppets. This week they have started making up a play using Australian animal stick puppets. They will share these with their class next lesson.

Year 1: Students have continued to focus on using their whole body to create drama. They have worked in small groups to retell a well-known fairytale using character masks. Students have also created a short scene with a partner using animal masks. Next week they will be learning about the use of masks for different celebrations.

Grade 2: Students have been learning about different types of puppets. They have been rehearsing with a small group, an Aesop Fable to act out using shadow puppets. They have considered the voice they will use for their character, what their character is saying, timing and how to show the shadow puppet is talking. We look forward to them sharing their plays next lesson.

Grade 3/4: Students have continued working on activities based on improvisation in drama. They have played games that focus on the use of imagination and quick thinking e.g. word at a time story, 3 words and sentence at a time story. Students have begun writing the continuation of a starter script with a partner. Their scenes must show who they are, the relationship between the characters, a plot, stage directions and an ending. Students will rehearse their scene and share them with the class over the next two lessons.

Grade 5/6: Students have continued working on activities based on improvisation in drama. They have played games that focus on the use of imagination and quick thinking e.g. word at a time story, 3 words and sentence at a time story. Sudents are working collaboratively with their chosen groups to continue and finish the play “The Discussion Period” on a selected topic while keeping the dialogue and characters consistent. We look forward to seeing each group perform their play endings over the next two lessons.

Music Clubs

Congratulations to our school rock band, “Red Hot Willy Peppers” who did their first performance at last week’s whole school assembly. They played Sombr’s “12 to 12” and ACDC’s “Long way to the top”.

We look forward to the Marimba Band and Choir performing this coming Friday Sept 4th at the Whole school assembly after lunch.

*NB – For students in the Music Clubs, please ensure they have/or wear their music tshirts on their performance day.

LOTE (French)

Prep–Year 2 🇫🇷🇨🇦

Our Prep–Year 2 students have been continuing to build their French vocabulary and conversation skills! We have been learning more about the weather, seasons, and months of the year, while expanding our vocabulary to help us have simple conversations in French. Students have also been learning how to ask and respond to questions about how they are feeling, using phrases such as Comment ça va ? and Ça va bien !

Students have been putting their French into practice through a range of activities, including drawing, writing and labelling pictures in French. It has been wonderful to see students becoming more confident using their new vocabulary and expressing their ideas in French!

Years 3–6 🇫🇷🇨🇦

Our Years 3–6 students have now begun working on their Paper Bag Book Report assessment! Working in pairs, students are creating a poster and story outline based on one of the French books we have studied this term.

Through this assessment, students are bringing together their understanding of French storytelling, characters, settings and key events, while putting the vocabulary and language structures they have learnt into practice. It has been fantastic to see students working collaboratively and using their French to retell and demonstrate their understanding of a story.

I've also attached a photo from French Club. We are designing and learning about haute couture fashion! In the photo they are planning their fashion pieces to bring them to life!
