This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Jacinta and Coen from Wangaratta High School for work experience—here’s what they had to say about their time with our Marketing and Communications, and Economic Development and Tourism teams.

"My name is Jacinta. I'm a year 10 student at Wangaratta High School and this week I had the wonderful opportunity of doing work experience with Council in the Marketing and Communications team. This week I worked alongside the Marketing team who work across media, socials, websites, graphic design, and community engagement. Everyone I've met has been very helpful and welcoming. This experience allowed me to see what working in marketing is like, and if it's a path I want to take in the future. I participated in team meetings, assisted with a photoshoot, poster designs and more. I've learned valuable skills of what makes a job something you'll enjoy and everyone's different pathways that helped lead them to their career now. I'm very grateful for this opportunity. It has helped me think about what I want for my career and how to get there. I'll miss working with everyone and enjoyed every day of work experience at Council.

Hi, I’m Coen and I go to Wangaratta High School. Over the past week, I had an amazing opportunity to join the Economic Development and Tourism team for work experience. I wanted to do work experience in this department because I have an interest in business and tourism. During my time with team, I participated in several meetings. The meetings helped me further understand the processes and procedures that go into decisions or new ideas. I learnt lots more about what goes into developing businesses and helping them succeed, e.g. getting permits. I also learnt the importance of using social media to communicate. I went to different places and had lots of adventures. I went to the rail trail collecting data of how many people use the pathway. Highlights included going to the Aerodrome and to Alpine MDF to learn about what they do. A big thank you to the team for having me and making me feel welcome for the week.
