Sport: Girls Netball Upper Hume Tournament

Intermediate Team Finishes Third

Thirty-eight of our best Girls continued a 100+ year tradition, representing the school in Netball at the Upper Hume tournament held at the Barr Reserve on Thursday, the  29th May.

All teams either matched or exceeded their results from 2024.

Our Intermediate team was our best performed, finishing with a 4-2 record to finish 3rd of 7 schools. They picked off local rivals Cathedral College (16-6), Victory Lutheran College (9-8), Wodonga Senior Secondary College (22-2) and Wodonga Middle Years (17-12). The only two they dropped were to the two mega-schools in Galen College (14-24) and Catholic College Wodonga (7-20).

Standout players were Captain and Wangaratta Magpies A Grader Milly O’Kane in Goal (fresh from playing for the Under 17 Netball Victoria State Team at the National Championships in Sydney last month), Yarrawonga Under 17 gun Jedda Driscoll in the midcourt, AWFA rep Soccer player Isabelle Christison and Emily Swinburne in defence, and Kyanna Payne both shooting and defending.

Our Year 8 team finished with a 3-3 record. They defeated both of the Wodonga Middle Years  teams (Felltimber 16-9, Huon 14-9) as well as Victory Lutheran (10-8).

Representative player Polly Oats led scoring with 27 goals at GS/GA, followed by Willow Norris (17) and Summer-Rae Brown(10). Georgia KellyPaige Tanner and Bella Boulton were described as awesome in the C, WA and WD positions.

Our Year 7 team, boasting two Wangaratta Netball Association Rep players in Macy Boschetti and Evie Fisher, also went 3-3. They also accounted for Felltimber (24-3), Huon (19-5) and Victory Lutheran (13-7). A great effort by a terrific crop of girls in their first ever Upper Hume Netball comp.

Our Senior team, coached by Australian Under 21 and Australian Institute Of Sport Netballer Zelda Yeates, finished with a 3-2 record. They put away Cathedral College (23-8) and had an epic win agasint Wodonga Senior Secondary College (20-18).
