Music Report - December 2025
The last few weeks have absolutely flown in Music as we have accomplished so many wonderful things.
Next year, the Secondary students will be presenting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the community in September. We held auditions in recent weeks, and the cast list will be emailed to families as soon as it is finalised. There are still a few puzzle pieces to confirm after approximately 45 auditions. All students prepared so beautifully for their audition that we have a very hard job finishing the cast list. We are praying for God to guide the musical team as we make the final decisions.

It is all very exciting and such a buzz to be around students (and staff) who are excited for this show. Thank you to all students who are committed to the rehearsal schedule for 2026 – I look forward to working with you all.
On Thursday, 20 November, we held a Year 7 Music Transition session. During this session, all students entering Year 7 in 2026 tried out the following instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. This has given the music staff a fantastic idea of which instrument will be best suited to each student as we begin the band program next year. It was a very loud afternoon, but lots of fun.

On Thursday 30 October, the Spring Concert was held. On this evening, we enjoyed performances from our larger ensembles at the college. It was a fantastic celebration of the students’ work in the music department over the year, and all students involved should be very proud of what they prepared and presented.

We enjoyed hearing items from: Year 7 Band, Year 8 Band, Senior Band, Secondary Chapel Band, Vocal Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Contemporary Ensembles, and a Year 7 clarinet group. Thank you to all students, staff, and parents involved for making it a lovely evening.
On Monday 24 November, we held the Instrumental Music Soiree. The Primary Concert was followed by the Secondary Concert, with approximately 50 students performing individual pieces for the community. It was wonderful to see such talented and dedicated students present items on piano, guitar, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums, and vocals. Thank you to the instrumental staff for supporting our students. We greatly value our instrumental teachers here at Christway and thank God for the work they do with our students.

On Monday 1 December, the Year 7 and Year 8 Bands both performed items at the Secondary Presentation Awards Assembly. I want to take this opportunity to wish all the Year 8 students the very best as they finish the band program. I have valued your energy and enthusiasm throughout the year and look forward to seeing you thrive and flourish in other programs across the college in the years ahead.
Enrolments for 2026 have already begun coming in. Thank you to the parents who have submitted their forms so we can plan early for staffing and begin lessons as soon as possible in the new year. If your child has been learning an instrument at school and wishes to continue, please find the new enrolment form attached and return it to the College office or to Allison Hart, the Music Administrator at music.admin@christway.vic.edu.au.
Thank you to all the students who have been a part of the music program at Christway in 2025. We have had a fantastic year with many events that our students should be very proud of. I want to give all glory to God for all the music department has achieved this year.
Please know that if your child has been involved in the music program, we have prayed through each decision made about performances and have continually looked to Christ for guidance as we plan and organise events.
Thank you to the college community for welcoming me to Christway this year. I have had such a lovely year meeting students and families and working with you all. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve this beautiful community. I look forward to 2026 with great eagerness, ready to continue working for the Lord in this role.
Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a safe, restful holiday period as you prepare for the new year
Ruth Barry
