Prize-Winning Framework

Earlier this year, the Executive Leadership Team of Christway College spent a significant amount of time developing and refining a Teaching and Learning Framework to inform educational practices across both campuses of Christway College. A Teaching and Learning Framework is a comprehensive plan used to align teaching strategies with learning goals, ensure consistency, and improve the learning experience for students.

We used our classroom creed, Ready, Respectful and Responsive, as our starting point because the creed concisely expresses our vision for teacher and student conduct in the college.

The framework identifies teacher and student responsibilities in each of the domains.

When thinking about Readiness, the expectation for students can be summed up as efficacy. We want our students to be equipped to learn. This includes everything from having stationery and a charged laptop to being well rested and having a good breakfast to set them up for the day. More importantly, it means coming into the classroom with the expectation that good things are about to happen.

For teachers, Readiness means being well prepared, with each student’s individual needs in mind. Teachers need to believe that all students can succeed and that students will achieve both personal and academic growth in their classes.

When thinking about Respectfulness, teachers are required to establish an environment that respects students, that demands students show respect for one another, and that values the learning process. It requires teachers to carefully select learning activities that maximise student engagement and offer opportunities for success.

Students, in turn, are required to highly esteem education and to invest in their own learning as a worthy pursuit. Students are expected to respect the right of others to learn and to view themselves as worthy of their own investment of time and energy.

When thinking about Responsiveness, teachers are to strive for excellent outcomes, while students are expected to engage cooperatively in all learning activities.

You can pick up a more comprehensive explanation of the Teaching and Learning Framework from the College office.

To our delight, in November, the Christway College Teaching and Learning Framework received an Innovators Award for exceptional commitment to the enhancement of education from John Lister MP. This was completely unexpected and a wonderful encouragement that our efforts at Christway College are being recognised as excellent and worthwhile.
