What's On In 3/4

Introduction:
These past few weeks in Grade 3/4 have been incredibly busy and productive. The students have been engaged in a wide range of learning experiences, working hard while continuing to enjoy their time in the classroom. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, growth and willingness to challenge themselves as they learn new skills and concepts. We are proud of the effort they have shown!
Literacy/ Information Reports
During our literacy sessions, students have been working incredibly hard on their Information Reports. They were allowed to choose their own topics, which made the learning experience more meaningful, engaging and exciting for them. Each grade decided to present their work in different ways. Some students chose to create digital presentations on their iPads, while others presented their learning through their writing journals or by designing informative posters.
It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm, curiosity and dedication students demonstrated throughout the inquiry process. They thoroughly enjoyed researching their chosen topics and were excited to share their findings with their peers. Watching students confidently present their investigations to the whole grade and showcase their learning was a fantastic achievement and a highlight of our literacy program.
Numeracy: Shapes/Space
Our Numeracy learning has been filled with rich reasoning, problem-solving and mathematical thinking. Students have been exploring addition and subtraction through algebraic thinking, while also investigating shapes, their properties and how they can be classified and described.
We have had so much fun discovering mathematics through creative activities, including maths-inspired art projects that allowed students to see mathematics differently and engagingly. Students have also been challenged to explain their mathematical thinking through writing, helping them develop a deeper understanding of concepts and communicate their reasoning clearly.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as mathematicians, collaborating with their peers, sharing ideas and embracing challenges along the way.
Integrated Studies / The First Fleet
Our Integrated Studies unit this term has focused on The First Fleet. To celebrate the culmination of our learning, students have been working hard on a theatre performance inspired by the topics and events we have explored throughout the term.
Students have been enthusiastically preparing for their roles, learning lines, practising scenes and working collaboratively with their classmates. Their excitement and dedication have been wonderful to see, and they are eagerly looking forward to performing in front of the whole cohort during the final week of term.
This performance will be a fantastic way to celebrate our learning and showcase the knowledge, creativity and confidence students have developed throughout the unit. We are excited to share this special event and reflect on all that we have learned together this term.
Well Being:
During Wellbeing this term, students have been exploring the important topics of cyber safety, emotional awareness and resilience. We have been learning about how to stay safe online, make responsible choices and understand the impact our actions can have on ourselves and others.
Students have also been developing their understanding of strong emotions and feelings, learning strategies to help them recognise, manage and cope with challenging situations. Through active participation in discussions, role-plays and problem-solving scenarios, students have been building their confidence, empathy and decision-making skills.
It has been wonderful to see students engaging thoughtfully in these learning experiences and developing the tools they need to support their wellbeing both inside and outside the classroom.
Term 2 / Overview
This term has been a busy and exciting one for the Grade 3/4 cohort. It all started with our camp in the second week of term, and the momentum has not slowed down since! Students and teachers have been riding a wave of enthusiasm and energy ever since. It was a wonderful way to kick off the term before the colder weather arrived.
Throughout the term, students have been involved in a wide range of school activities and events, including Walk to School Day, celebrating 100 years of David Attenborough, Hoop Time, Winter School Sports and the Grade 4 students participating in Senior School Sports. We also had several students proudly represent our school by competing in District Cross Country.
Within the classroom, we have celebrated many learning successes and achievements. We hope families who attended Open Night and our Literacy Safari enjoyed seeing the incredible work students have been producing throughout the term. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their learning and take pride in their accomplishments.
There has certainly been a positive buzz throughout the cohort this term. Students have worked hard to create classrooms that are safe, respectful and welcoming, where everyone feels valued, supported and encouraged to have a go. We are incredibly proud of the growth, resilience and enthusiasm our students have demonstrated and look forward to finishing the term on a high with our First Fleet performance celebration.
