Parent requests for classroom placement in 2027
Earlier this week I sent out a Compass News feed regarding this. I have included it below in case you missed it. Every year, we invite families to submit written requests to the Principal for the placement of their child/children for the following year. You are now invited to put in writing any education-based requests for your child for 2027. Examples of education-based requests may include the following:
- A necessary separation from a student due to a close family relationship
- A necessary separation from a student due to a previous conflict between the students
- A necessary teacher request due to a possible conflict of interest that may arise due to a close personal or professional relationship with the teacher
As part of our placement process, students will be asked to write a friendship list with 5 friends they believe they can work well with in 2027. Teachers will explain to students that, based on their list, everyone will have at least 1 friend in their 2027 class. Students may choose friends from their current class or other classes within their year level. Please discuss your child’s choices with them, encouraging them to think about other students they work well with, remembering they can still socialise with their ‘best friends’ in the playground.
Please be aware that friendship is only one of the many criteria we consider when creating classes, and we invest significant time and energy to ensure the classes we create are positive learning environments for all students. We do not rush this process or create classes in a single sitting. There are many staff involved at every year level, as well as across year levels, to ensure the best placement for every individual student.
Information from parents is considered alongside teachers’ views, social requests, and the needs of individual student groups, to ensure positive class placements for every student.
The final decision about class placement lies with the Principal.
To support our students with the transition process, teacher teams will be defined, and students will spend time with their new class and room as early as possible in December to become familiar with their new setting.
I remind everyone that a conversation with a classroom teacher is not an official request, and they will not be used to inform a student’s 2027 placement. In previous years, there have been occasions when these conversations have been viewed by parents as official class placement conversations guaranteeing the request, and these requests have not been met, causing distress. We wish to avoid any distress and, therefore, will only consider classroom placement for 2027 requests sent to me in writing. Please assume that previous requests have not been recorded and that I will need a new written request for any 2027 placements based on educational grounds.
If you would like to chat to me about your request before making it, please don’t hesitate to email me or call me on the school number. Once classes are announced, it is very difficult for us to make changes without significantly impacting others, so please take the opportunity to call me if you need to chat.
If you wish to submit a written request, please send it directly to me using the email address below by Friday October 23rd 2026. I will confirm receipt of your email to ensure that you know I have received it. If I don’t confirm receipt of your email within 48 hours, please don’t hesitate to contact me to check.
Prep Transition 2027
Next week, we are running our first transition session for our 2027 Prep students. This is always an exciting time to meet our incoming students. Our teachers have exciting experiences planned for the children and we look forward to welcoming them into our learning spaces.
Whole School Photo Day
Next Thursday is our Whole School Day. This is also the day for students who were unexpectedly absent on photo day earlier in the year. If you received confirmation that your child would be photographed on this day, Thursday is it!
Regional athletics
On Wednesday, Frankie P, Annabel H, Sharleez G, River S, Holly B and Angus F represented our school at the regional competition. Holly achieved fifth place in the 200metre event. Sharleez achieved sixth place in the discus. Annabel achieved eighth place in the discus, also. River achieved seventh place in the triple jump. Angus achieved sixth place in the 800m event. A BIG congratulations to Frankie P, who is progressing to the state competition after placing first in high jump!
Wishing you all a wonderful time if you are joining our family camp this weekend and an equally wonderful one if you are not!
