Getting Ready for Our SJV House Sports Carnival!
As we prepare for our upcoming St John Vianney’s House Sports Carnival, we encourage all our students to think about what it means to be a good sport. Our carnival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate teamwork, participation, school spirit and our SJV values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
Being a good sport means playing fairly, trying your best and treating teammates, opponents and officials with kindness and respect, regardless of whether you win or lose.
What does being a good sport look like?
- Show respect: Follow the rules, listen to instructions and respect the decisions of teachers and officials.
- Try your best: Focus on giving every event your best effort rather than worrying about winning.
- Celebrate graciously: Be proud of your achievements without bragging, teasing or putting others down.
- Be resilient: If things don't go your way, take a deep breath, stay calm and remember that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow.
- Encourage others: Cheer on your teammates, celebrate their efforts and use positive words such as “Great try!”, “Well done!” and “Keep going!”
- Play safely and fairly: Keep your hands and feet to yourself, take turns and make sure everyone has the opportunity to participate.
At SJV, we know that success is not just about coming first; it is about the effort we make, the way we treat others and how we respond to challenges. Our House Sports Carnival is a chance for every student to demonstrate these qualities and make their House proud.
Let's bring our enthusiasm, teamwork and positive attitudes to the carnival and show what it means to be part of the SJV community. Remember, you don't have to win every race to be a champion — you just need to give your best, encourage others and show good sportsmanship!
Go SJV! Go Teamwork! Go House Spirit!
