Grade 3 and 4

EMPATHY
ACT with Empathy. The last couple of weeks we have been learning more about Empathy. Empathy is the ability to share the feelings of another. It involves showing acts of kindness, helping others and being compassionate. The more empathetic we are, the more likely we are to act in a kind way.
A - Acknowledge the Challenge: Show respect to the person experiencing the challenge.
C - Companion: Be a caring companion.
T - Talk: Allow the person to talk and actively listen.
To support our work in The Resilience Project, we have been implementing Mindfulness most days through Meditation. This experience has allowed us to slow down, connect and ground us. We have been extremely lucky to have Ms Hansen (our preservice teacher from last year) run a couple of meditations with us using her special crystal bowls that we could feel throughout our bodies through meditation. Thank you Ms Hansen. The staff were also very lucky to have a meditation session last Tuesday afternoon.
Special Visitor
Last week we had a special visit from Skala, the friendly Border Collie. It was wonderful to see the students with patience, compassion, and enjoyment in having Skala in the classroom to support their learning. Skala came to school for two days and had the best time ever! She loved meeting all the students, getting lots of pats, and joining in on the fun. Skala was so busy playing, exploring, and enjoying all the attention that by the end of it, she was completely worn out. It took her the whole weekend to rest and recover from her big adventure. Everyone loved having Skala at school, and she brought so much joy to the classroom!
Thank you Ms M for sharing Skala with us, she is a beautiful and placid pup!
How Full Is Your Bucket?
How Full Is Your Bucket? is a fun and heartwarming picture book about kindness and how our actions affect others. The story follows a little boy named Felix, who learns that everyone has an invisible bucket that fills up when good things happen and empties when bad things happen. When Felix is kind to others, their buckets fill up—and so does his! But when he is unkind, both his bucket and theirs start to empty. After reading the story, the Year 4 students made their own buckets and filled each other’s buckets with kind words and actions, spreading happiness just like Felix did!
Pancake Tuesday
This week the Grade 4's had a great "maths" session making pancakes. The students got to measure, mix and then eat the pancakes. It was a great opportunity to put maths into action. There are some amazing chefs amoung the cohort. There were also some very generous students who shared their pancakes with some of the other teachers.
