Senior School

Maths & English
This week in Maths, Grade 6s have been exploring the four operations with decimal numbers, focusing on strategies to solve real-world problems, whilst the Grade 5s have been exploring the four operations with whole numbers.
During our Reading sessions, we have been critiquing texts, discussing what we like and how they can be improved. This helps students develop critical thinking skills and learn how to provide constructive feedback.
In Writing, students are learning about the power of persuasion. They are investigating persuasive writing techniques, learning how to construct strong arguments and refine their writing. We are also finishing our narratives, ensuring they are engaging and well-structured.
Check out these student-created persuasive posters... do you think they send a powerful message
It's been a fantastic fortnight of learning, and we look forward to seeing students apply these skills in their work!

The Resilience Project
During our Resilience Project lesson last week, the students in Grade 5 enjoyed learning about oxytocin, a natural hormone produced in the body, that promotes positive feelings. To better understand the science behind it, they made a model of how oxytocin works in the brain.
Students have also been learning about Empathy and Gratitude. Here are some examples of the Empathy Boards they created on Canva.
Homework
Homework is an essential part of learning, helping students reinforce what they have covered in class, while developing important skills such as time management, responsibility, and problem-solving. It also allows parents to stay involved in their child’s education and track their progress. By building good study habits, homework prepares students for future academic success.
To support consistency, homework will be posted on Google Classroom every Monday, ensuring all students have easy access to their assignments. We encourage families to check in regularly and support their child’s learning at home.
The National Young Leaders Day
On 3rd of March, our school captains had the privilege of attending the National Young Leaders Day; a truly inspiring event. They returned to school buzzing with enthusiasm, sharing tales of motivational speakers and powerful messages about leadership, resilience, and making a positive impact. Thomas Duncan-Watt, Emma McKeon, Majak Daw and Catherine Laga'aia were the inspiring leaders that we were able to learn about and hear their amazing stories.
Puppy Fun in 6B
Last week, Skala, Ms M's energetic border collie, visited our class, bringing a whirlwind of fun. She kept us captivated with her tennis ball skills, leaping and catching with incredible precision. The highlight was when she settled down for cuddles on the floor while some of the grade 6 girls were completing their narrative writing.
