Foundation (Prep)

English

We have spent the first half of term focusing on words and how we can break them into parts. Over the past fortnight we have continued to practice counting syllables and finding rhyming words. This week we looked more closely at letters and introduced a couple of friends to teach us about the letters 'm' and 's'.

Maggie Mouse makes the /m/ sound.

Sammy Seal makes the /s/ sound.

The students have learnt that each letter has a name and a sound. We have been identifying words that begin with these sounds and focusing on how to write them correctly.

Our Storybooks this fortnight were Grandpa and Thomas by Pamela Allen and Bogtrotter by Margaret Wild. We enjoyed painting Bogtrotter and talking about our favourite part of the story.

Maths

In Maths, we have continued to focus on numbers and counting but have also introduced measuring length. It is a fun topic and the students have enjoyed measuring small items in the classroom, how far they can jump and how tall they are.

Inquiry

This term, the Prep students are focusing on an Inquiry unit called, My Place. It is a geographical unit that is designed to develop students understanding of location and help them identify and describe the natural, managed, and constructed features of places.

This fortnight, the Prep students partnered up with their buddies. Each group had a blank map of our school and they were encouraged to work together to identify landmarks which were not on the map and add them on. The senior students were excellent facilitators and also helped the younger children label their maps.

Have a great long weekend everyone!
