As we complete the final week of Term 3, it is worth reflecting on the many opportunities and experiences our students have been involved in across the school.
What continues to distinguish Carnegie PS is the range of opportunities we provide for students to learn, connect, challenge themselves and contribute beyond the classroom. This term has been particularly full, with students and staff involved in a wide range of initiatives and events.
Our Prep students have reached the important milestone of 100 Days of Prep, participated in visits from the government nurse and we welcomed our Koorie Education Support Officer (KESO), strengthening our connections and support for First Nations students. Our senior students benefited from visits from AFL players, while our Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed their camp at Phillip Island and our Year 6 students visited ACME.
There has also been a strong focus on student learning and excellence. Students have participated in coding challenges, Olympiads, Maths Games, the ICAS Science competition and the Spelling Bee. We are particularly proud of eight students who represented our school at the State Spelling Bee Championships and to Kingston from grade 3, who has gone on to participate at the national level. We are awaiting the results.
Our staff have continued to strengthen their practice through professional learning in Respectful Relationships, SPRINTS and Responsive Teaching, including coaching. This work is an important part of our ongoing commitment to improving teaching and learning across the school.
Term 3 has also provided many opportunities for our community to come together. We enjoyed our Book Week parade and special performances, Science Week, House Athletics, the Year 2 Fun Night, STOMP, our Parent Open Morning, Father’s Day BBQ and Principal’s Day celebrations. We have also welcomed prospective families through Prep tours and enrolments.
A significant focus this term has been the continued development of our whole-school approach, including the implementation of Facts on Fire and our school values system, alongside an increased presence through our school social media - Instagram platform. These initiatives are helping us strengthen consistency, communication and connection across our school community.
And, of course, the highlight for many was our school production, The Great Australian Road Trip. The commitment, creativity and teamwork demonstrated by our students and staff made this a memorable experience and showcased the many strengths of our school.
We have one more opportunity to come together before the term concludes — Sports Colours Day this Friday. It will be a fitting way to finish a very busy term, celebrating the Carnegie school spirit.
Thank you to our students, staff and families for the contribution each has made throughout Term 3. I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned break and returns refreshed for the final term of the year.
