Breaksea House News

The past few weeks in Breaksea have been action-packed, with our boarders embracing every opportunity that’s come their way.

Camps have been a major highlight across all year levels. Our Year Elevens enjoyed a fantastic Art Camp in Fremantle, making the most of the change of scenery while exploring galleries and immersing themselves in creativity. Closer to home, our Year Eights, Jasmine and Brooklyn headed off to Camp Quaranup; while Jess and Maddi set sail on an unforgettable Leeuwin adventure. Meanwhile, Jayla, Paige and Matilda took on the challenge of rafting along the Blackwood River. While some found elements of their camps challenging, it was awesome to see how our boarders rose to the occasion, demonstrating resilience, independence, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones, qualities that define boarding life so well.

During Week Eight, many of our Year Eleven and Year Twelve students were excited to attend the Perth University Tour as part of their exploration of pathways beyond school. Unfortunately, this event was cancelled due to concerns around student and staff safety with Cyclone Narelle coming down the coast, wreaking havoc along the way. We hope to see this event rescheduled at a later date.

Back at the house, we’ve continued our Thursday night buddy group catch-ups, and it has been genuinely lovely to see friendships forming across all year levels. There’s a real sense of connection building within Breaksea, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

Kyle has been working tirelessly to organise a wide range of recreation options, and its been fantastic hearing how much the girls have been enjoying them. From Lighting the Sound experiences, to açai bowl outings and op-shop runs, there’s been something for everyone. A standout was the epic inter-house sports competition on Friday night, which brought plenty of energy, laughter and healthy rivalry.

We were also incredibly grateful to receive a generous donation of a sewing machine from Mrs Franzenelli. I’m hopeful this sparks some creativity among the girls, perhaps even inspiring a few to upcycle old clothes or learn a new skill on the weekends.

One of our recent highlights has been decorating our “Destiny Bags,” which we hope to fill and donate to those in need later this year. We would love support from families to help us stock these bags with essential items.

We are so proud of the care and compassion our boarders are showing through this initiative. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support in helping us make a meaningful difference.

Of course, no few weeks would be complete without celebrations, happy birthday to Anne, Isla and Sassie! We loved celebrating with you all.

In addition, a huge congratulations to our much-adored supervisor, Axelle Sommier, on officially becoming an Australian citizen!

We loved celebrating this special milestone in Breaksea with a classic Aussie afternoon tea, complete with plenty of sweet treats and a playlist of iconic Australian songs setting the vibe. It was a joyful way to recognise Axelle and the wonderful contribution she makes to our boarding community every day.

We are so lucky to have you as part of Breaksea, Axelle, what a moment to celebrate!

Wishing everyone a happy, safe and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term, refreshed and ready for the winter sport season ahead.
