From the Directors of Boarding

It has been another fantastic term in boarding. Reflecting on the past weeks and considering how we have embraced the school theme of Growth = Standards + Action, it is clear that this has been evident across many aspects of our boarding community. Our students, supported and guided by our wonderful boarding staff, continue to lift the standard.
This has been seen in many ways, for example, students taking greater responsibility for keeping their living spaces tidy, showing leadership in helping younger boarders settle into routines, and demonstrating maturity during evening prep sessions. We have also noticed increased participation in weekend activities and a stronger commitment to punctuality and organisation. These are all small but meaningful indicators of the growth taking place.
We have seen genuine student buy‑in, which demonstrates real action. Whether through participation in boarding activities, engagement with routines, or success in the day school, boarding is represented everywhere, a true sign of the development happening within the program.
As with every term, there are ups and downs, but our students continue to show up, displaying remarkable resilience and independence, often doing so with a big smile.
Cross Country takes place on the final day of term, providing a great opportunity for families to join us at school to cheer on their child or children before heading home for the Term One holiday. Be safe and enjoy the break.
Staffing News
We are delighted to extend a massive congratulations to Axelle Sommier on receiving her Australian citizenship. Axelle is a valued member of the boarding team, and it was wonderful to see this significant milestone celebrated with Liz Stewart and the Breaksea girls.
We also congratulate Kyle Kovacs, who has recently been granted his student visa. Kyle is no longer a gap student and has now officially joined the boarding supervision team. We look forward to working with Kyle as he continues his journey here at Great Southern Grammar.
We are pleased to welcome Grace Larham back to the supervision team in Term Two - welcome back, Grace!
We wish Wayne and Amber Freeman all the best as they commence their long service leave at the start of next term and look forward to welcoming them back in Week Four. A sincere thank you to Bill, Wayne and Conny for stepping in to cover driving and day duty commitments while Amber and Wayne are away.
We are also pleased to share that Yalari has welcomed Melanie Crowley as their new Student Support Officer, supporting Yalari students at GSG. Melanie takes over from Georgie Mullins, and we wish Melanie all the very best in the role, as she brings her own unique contributions to the position.
We would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank Georgie for her outstanding contribution to GSG Boarding over the past four years. Her dedication, advocacy and support of Yalari students have been remarkable, and deeply appreciated. Georgie has been an invaluable support to the Heads of Boarding Houses during this time and has been a key connector between students, families, the school and boarding staff.
