Principal Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We recently recognised ANZAC Day across our school. I'm incredibly proud of the work the students produced throughout the week in their reading and writing classes, on the topic of ANZAC Day. The school captains shared information about the day prior and read a poem called Ode of Remembrance. The captains also attended Lilydale Cenotaph and laid a wreath to commemorate the day. Thank you to Yasmine, Tahli, Eli, and Maddi.

Extra activities

I would like to share with you the extra activities we offer our children. You probably know about these; however, there may be some new activities that you would like your children to participate in.

Breakfast club

Every Wednesday, we run a breakfast club in the canteen from 8:15am - 8:45am. Children can grab warm toast and juice/milk on their way to class. The winter months are around the corner. This is a great way to get some hot food into hungry tummies before class.

We are looking to add an extra day to our week. We will need some more helpers. If you are keen to help us run one more day each week, please contact Helen Plunket: helen.plunkett@education.vic.gov.au

Daily Fruit

Fruit is provided free for students three afternoons a week outside the canteen. It is one piece per child, and children are encouraged to eat the fruit and to avoid using the apples as a ball or toy.

Family Help Packs

If you need a little help with some extra food items each week, please reach out. We are happy to help. Contact the office team, and we will organise to share pantry staples for those families that are in need.

Lunch Clubs

We have our regular lunch clubs each day, fitness, gardening, art, and this term, Dungeons and Dragons. Thank you to Mr Taylor, Ms Chambers, Ms Twentyman, and Mrs Taylor.

We have also added some student clubs to the term roster.

Monday: Lego Club with Sienna (1TH) and Sia (1LB) in room 14 supervised by Mr Bradley.

Wednesday: Board Games & Chess with Quinn (2SM) and Kade (2AH) in room 9 supervised by Mrs Margetts.

Thursday: Crochet Club with Sienna (5/6O) supervised by Ms Chambers.

Friday: Choir with Diyenka and Kiana (5/6O) in room 8 supervised by Mrs Harrison, and Colouring In with Isla (3/4B) and Elsie (3/4P) in Room 11 supervised by Mr B Smith.

We also have 'Sports Lending' through our House Captains each week.

We have something for everyone!

Maths club

We also have a maths club that runs from 8:15-8:45am each day (except Wednesday) with Ms Plunkett. Anyone is welcome.

Buildings and Grounds

Thank you to the families that shared information about the graffiti vandalism that occurred over the holidays. Thanks to our new and improved CCTV, we were able to capture images, share them with high schools, locate a name, and send it to Mooroolbark Police. The clean-up has happened thanks to Mr Laracy, but it may make them think twice in the future about being so selfish.

eBikes and Scooters

Mmmm...they continue to be a problem in our community. My main worry is the safety of children and those around when they show no regard for anyone's safety. If you do see children on them at school, feel free to remind them in a friendly way that we do not have eBikes or eScooters on the school grounds. This is regardless of speed, type, or any other excuse given.

AEU stopwork

A proposed half-day stopwork by the Australian Education Union on 2nd June is on pause while further negotiations progress between the union and the government. If this stopwork day does proceed, it will be in the morning. I will be encouraging all families to send their children to school on this day. Fingers crossed the right people make the right decisions prior so we can continue to support your children's education with a full team of educators on this day.

Thanks,

Craig
