This fortnight students in P-2 have continued learning about the importance of technology Students continued to practise their coding skills, before moving onto general navigation practice on their I-pads. This allowed them to practise getting into, and using a range of programs, saving work, importing images, adding and editing text and headings etc. We finshed off the session with a STEM challenge. The challenge was to build the longest paper chain using only 1 x A3 piece of paper. Students did an amazing job.

In the 3-4 area students continued learning about the importance of technology, especially in people’s occupations. This fortnight students experienced life as a Graffiti Artist and a Music Producer. They made their own music remix using their favourite artists before creating a musical instrument. They also designed a groovy graffiti style name sign for their bedroom.

In the 5-6 area students continued making a 3D model of their playground using classroom materials. Students used an array of materials ranging from cardboard, straws, paddle pop sticks, rolled up paper and tape to create their fabulous designs. These designs were inspired by their online designs in the week prior. See below for examples.

We have been having so much fun learning and exploring Auslan (Australian Sign Language)! The children have been enthusiastically embracing this new language and challenging themselves to learn and use new signs each day.

So far, we have been learning signs for greetings, manners, emotions, family name and colours, as well as learning songs and enjoying picture story books to further support and extend our learning. We have also been practising using Auslan to communicate in sentences, helping us to build confidence in expressing ourselves through sign.

Our learning has also provided wonderful opportunities to develop an understanding of hearing loss and the Deaf community, and to build respect and appreciation for different ways of communicating. We have explored how communication can involve sign, body language, facial expressions, lip reading and modelling, and have been discovering how these different forms of communication work together.

We are also very excited to be learning ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’ in Auslan as part of our upcoming Art Expo on Thursday, 3rd September at 2:00pm. The students are really embracing the challenge of learning the signs, movements and expressions that accompany the song. They have shown such eagerness and enthusiasm to practise and are very excited to share their learning and perform this for you all at the Art Expo. We can't wait for you to see their wonderful efforts

It has been fantastic to see how willing the children are to have a go, make mistakes, practise and keep trying. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and growing confidence have been wonderful to see! We are so pleased with the way they are embracing Auslan and look forward to continuing to learn, communicate and challenge ourselves together.

INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

We wish all our Grade 3–6 students the very best of luck as they compete at the Interschool Athletics Carnival at Jack Eddy Oval, Moama, next week.

LCS ATHLETICS DAY

The LCS Athletics Day will be held on Wednesday, 2nd September (please see the timetable below). Parents and family members are warmly invited to join us and cheer on our students throughout the day. Students are encouraged to wear their House colours and show their House spirit as they compete.
