From the School Council

We met on Tuesday evening and I particularly want to thank the parents and teachers who set the time aside in the evening to discuss some important matters. Please take the time to read this report of the evening’s discussion.

The school has been in discussion with the Victorian School Building Authority about compliance of our Shelter In Place (SIP) facility. This is a valuable asset for the school which some of our neighbours do not have. Having our own SIP allows us to continue to function on site on days of Extreme Fire Danger. You will probably remember that earlier this year, some of our neighbouring schools had to close or relocate their activities to other schools. This summer is shaping up as an even more challenging fire season than last year. These discussions have revealed that some work needs to be done to make our SIP facility compliant.

Another change we heard about relates to correspondence from Manningham Council about impending footpath improvements on Aviemore Ave and changes to traffic arrangements in Bowmore Avenue. A dedicated “kiss and drop” zone is to be installed in place of five 15 minute parking spaces near the main gate to improve the safety of our children at peak times. Please do not drop or pick up children from the middle of the road before and after school as it is dangerous for them to be running between cars.

We also reviewed financial reports, which are on track and show that the school’s finances are well governed, as well as reports from the Parent Association on recent successful activities and upcoming events. Please watch for further information through class level group chats.

If you have any questions about any of this, please just ask me or any of the school council members or Ms Garrity.
