Breaking Bell news! Adults are putting kids at risk around our school because…
Adults are idling in their cars in front of school grounds and in nearby streets while they’re waiting to pick up and drop off their children. Little do they know, keeping engines running wastes fuel, pollutes the air and wears engines out.
Idling is leaving your car running while your car is parked. Idling releases exhaust gas that can affect kids’ lungs and increases their risk of asthma and cancer.
Did you know that one minute of idling can fill 150+ balloons full of polluted air!?
The kids of Bell Primary are asking you to stop idling. Next time you are waiting for your kid, turn your engine off to keep the air around our school clean!

SunSmart Reminder – Hats Are Back!
A friendly reminder that our SunSmart hat season resumes from next week. In line with the Victorian Department of Education's SunSmart guidelines, as UV levels begin to increase from mid-August, all students are expected to wear their school-approved broad-brimmed, bucket or legionnaire hat whenever they are outdoors, including during recess, lunch and outdoor learning activities.
Please help your child remember to bring their hat to school each day. Labelling hats with your child's name also makes it easier for any misplaced hats to be returned.

Tournament of Minds

On the weekend, 21 students from Bell Primary headed to Deakin University in Burwood to compete in Tournament of the Minds. Tournament of the Minds is a competition for primary and high school students that encourages creative thinking and performance skills.
Each team chose a challenge out of the four available categories - STEM, The Arts, Languages and Literature, and Social Sciences. Then the teams prepared a ten minute performance explaining the solution to their challenge. We spent five weeks preparing for our long term challenge, this included making props and costumes, writing scripts and learning lines. It was a difficult and sometimes stressful process, but it was all worth it in the end.
Finally, the big day came! We performed our long term challenges against other schools at Deakin University, and all the teams did an incredible job. We also did our spontaneous challenge. The spontaneous challenge is a ten minute challenge in which teams did not know what the topic was. We had to keep this a secret so no teams had an advantage against others.
Tournament of the Minds was such a great experience, and we recommend it to anyone looking for a challenge with creative thinking and lots of fun. We all made new friends with like-minded kids in different year levels, learnt new skills and had an unforgettable experience.

Music Talent Show!
This is just a reminder that we are hosting an online music talent show to celebrate music at our school. Here are some of the details that you should know:
The task: At home you will film your child and send it to us. Be sure to add your child’s/ren’s names and class.
Performance length: The performance should be no longer than 2 minutes long.
What they can perform: Any music related activity is allowed, eg: singing, dancing, instrument.
Main rules: It has to be age appropriate, for example, no swearing, as well as appropriate costumes and actions.
Deadline: Please submit by Friday 4 September (week 7) Term 3.
Group size: Your child can be in a team of up to three or perform solo.
Prize: The winner from Prep-2s and 3s-6s will get to perform at assembly and get 100 house points each. Winners will be announced by the end of the term 3.
What we are judging on: We are judging on your child’s confidence, engagement, creativity, effort, and preparation.

Venue: John Cain Arena
Show times and duration: Saturday 29 August, 1.00pm and 6.30pm,
approximately 3 hours in length including a 30 minute interval.
Prices: Adult $40, Concession $30, Child (U15) $20
Group Bookings: Groups receive one free ticket for every 10 purchased.

Mass Dance Seating Recommendations: Our Bell kids will be dancing right up the front in the middle. Book tickets in the recommended sections below for optimal viewing. The sections will be visible on the Ticketek seating map when purchasing online tickets.
