Academic Sport Program

Term 3 has been a very busy one for our Academic Sports Program students.
Diggers Rest Primary School Athletics Carnival
Students from the Academic Sports Program recently demonstrated their leadership, initiative and teamwork by assisting at the Diggers Rest Primary School Athletics Carnival. From timekeeping and marshalling to coaching and encouraging young athletes, our students played an integral role in ensuring the day was both enjoyable and successful. Their enthusiasm and professionalism were a credit to the College and a great display of our values in action.
Victoria University Sport & Exercise Science Visit
Our students had the exciting opportunity to visit Victoria University’s Footscray campus for a day immersed in Sport and Exercise Science. They explored university life and participated in hands-on practicals using industry-standard equipment.
A standout moment was the VO₂ Max Test, with special recognition to Hayden for volunteering as the test subject! Students timed intervals, pricked blood samples, used Borg’s RPE scale, and adjusted treadmill speed and incline to monitor results.
They also tackled the Wingate Test to measure anaerobic leg power, pushing themselves physically while learning the science behind performance.
AFL Guest Speakers: Ben Hobbs & Jayden Nguyen
We were privileged to welcome Essendon Football Club’s Ben Hobbs and Jayden Nguyen to speak with our Academic Sports Program students. They shared valuable insights into life as elite athletes, highlighting the importance of routine, mindset, nutrition and resilience. Students were inspired by their journeys and took away practical advice on how to strive for success—both on and off the field.
A big good luck to the Year 9 students who have applied to be part of the Academic Sports Program in 2026!
Sunbury Primary School’s District Athletics Carnival
A huge thank you to Alice Metcalf and Harvey McLellan for volunteering their time on a student-free day to assist with Sunbury Primary School’s District Athletics Carnival. This was a wonderful demonstration of our College values and the strength of our program. Well done!

Congratulations to Academic Sports Program student Alice Metcalf on representing Victoria at the Under 16 National Basketball Championships in Bendigo. Alice and her team went through the entire tournament undefeated and claimed the championship title. Fantastic work, Alice!
