Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,

In English, the Year 2 students have been exploring the purpose and features of letter writing through the wonderful picture book 'The Day the Crayons Find Friends'. They have learnt how to structure a letter by including a heading, date, greeting, body, closing and signature, while thinking carefully about their audience and purpose. Students enjoyed writing their own letter to their future self and using descriptive language to make their writing interesting and meaningful.

In Maths, students have been developing their multiplicative thinking by exploring different strategies to solve multiplication problems. They have been creating and interpreting arrays, using repeated addition and applying doubling strategies to build their understanding of multiplication concepts.

During Guided Inquiry, students have been investigating how people communicated in the past before modern technology. This week they explored forms of communication including handwritten letters, telegrams and Morse code, and discussed how these methods compare with the ways we communicate today. Students particularly enjoyed decoding and writing their own secret messages using Morse code, showing curiosity and enthusiasm as they discovered how messages were sent across long distances many years ago.
