Principal's Message

100 days of Foundation

Today our Foundation students celebrated an exciting milestone.

Reaching 100 days of learning is a wonderful achievement and marks an important stage in our students' school journey. The day was filled with fun, hands on activities centred around the number 100, including counting challenges, creative art, writing tasks and dress up fun as 100 year olds. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and confidence our Foundation students have developed over their first 100 days at school. We are incredibly proud of how much they have grown, both academically and socially, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with them throughout their time at MPRPS.

A special thank you to Ash and Miss Emmett for their incredible guidance, support and dedication in leading our Foundation team through the first 100 days of school. We suspect they may have aged a little over the past 100 days, but their patience, enthusiasm and sense of humour have helped make it a fantastic start to the year for our youngest learners.

This week we have also run a photos series on Instagram of our staff in their first year of school. Can you guess who is who? Pop online and have a look.

5/6 Camp

Our Year 5/6 students enjoyed a fantastic CYC City Camp, where they had the opportunity to learn, explore and challenge themselves through a range of exciting experiences in Melbourne.

Throughout the camp, students participated in a variety of educational activities, including a visit to the Old Melbourne Gaol, where they explored Victoria's early history and learned about life in colonial Melbourne. They also enjoyed a guided Chinatown Tour, discovering the rich cultural heritage and history of one of Melbourne's most vibrant precincts. A visit to the National Gallery of Victoria gave students the opportunity to engage with a diverse collection of artworks and develop their appreciation of art and culture.

Beyond these experiences, camp provided many opportunities for students to build independence, strengthen friendships, develop teamwork skills and create lasting memories. It was wonderful to hear how the students embraced new experiences, supported one another and represented Mount Pleasant Road Primary School with enthusiasm and respect throughout the camp.

A sincere thank you to our staff Roz, Nick, Ciara, Claire, Jonny, Jess and Sam who put many hours in preparation into orgnaising the camp. Many parents also came to support camp. Thank you to Damien, Amy, Nicole, Anna, Dayna, Luke and Emmanuelle. Michelle the 5/6R student teacher also went along, which is a fanatsic excperience for her to have. We are incredibly grateful for all the people who supported this camp.

Senior Constable Verity Newport visits from Forest Hill Police Station

This week, we were pleased to welcome Senior Constable Verity Newport from Forest Hill Police Station to speak with our senior students at assembly.

Senior Constable Newport spoke about the important role that local police play as a community support service and reminded students that police officers are there to help keep everyone safe. She discussed strategies for travelling safely to and from school, including being aware of their surroundings, using safe road crossing practices, and making sensible choices when walking, riding or using public transport.

Students also learned about staying safe in and around the school environment, respecting road rules, and knowing what to do if they ever feel unsafe or need assistance. The session reinforced where students can go for help, including trusted adults at school, parents and carers, and local police.

We thank Senior Constable Newport for taking the time to share these valuable safety messages with our students and for her ongoing support of our school community.

Industrial Action Update

Thank you to all of our families for your understanding, patience and flexibility during the uncertainty surrounding last week's planned industrial action. We greatly appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation, which enabled us to navigate the changing circumstances.

Thank you to our OSH Club team

A big thank you to our wonderful OSHClub team for the outstanding care and engaging program they provide to our students during the OOHC and vacation care program.

This year’s theme for National Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Educators’ Day is "Valuing OOSH Educators Every Day". OSHC Educators play an important part in our community by providing safe and engaging programs which support families to work or attend to other commitments.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of the team led by Leyla and permanent educator Shirley who create a fun and welcoming environment where students can build friendships, try new activities and eat delicious food.

The team support at school events such as Twilight Sports, Family Breakfast and our upcoming Athletics and Christmas Concert. Thank you for everything you do to support our school community.

Every Day Counts

A friendly reminder that every school day counts. Regular attendance is one of the strongest contributors to student learning success. We understand that illnesses and family circumstances sometimes make absences unavoidable, however, where possible, arriving at school on time and attending every day helps students remain connected to their learning, their friendships and their classroom routines. If your child is experiencing school reluctance or there are circumstances impacting attendance, please don't hesitate to contact us so we can work together to provide support.

Business Manager Award

Congratulations to our very own Business Manager, Meg, on receiving the VMIA Network Professional Development Award on behalf of the Yarra Ranges Business Manager Network Group! This award means fantastic professional learning opportunities not just for our own Mount Pleasant community, but for schools right across the Yarra Ranges Network too.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing the positive outcomes this opportunity will bring for our students, staff and partner schools.
