Sacred Heart School Art Show is on next Thursday 6th August, 6:00 - 7:30pm.

We would love to see all you at the Art Show. 

The theme for the Art Show is 'Art That Grows On You'. This theme was chosen in conjunction with the STEAM Leaders - Georgia and Ben. It demonstrates the growth and progression of the students learning during STEAM and their school life. 

Some of the students created an invitation for the Art Show. 

ITALIAN

Grade 1 and 2 Italian

This term, our Grade 1 and 2 students will explore the much-loved story Orso Marrone, Orso Marrone, Cosa Vedi? (Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?) by Eric Carle. This engaging and repetitive text provides the perfect platform for learning the names of animals while revising colours in Italian in a fun, meaningful and memorable way.

Through songs, games, role-play, movement activities and storytelling, students will build their confidence in listening, speaking and understanding Italian. They will be introduced to simple grammatical structures and verb conjugations, including the question "Cosa vedi?" (What do you see?), the response "Vedo…" (I see…), and the phrase "che mi guarda" (that is looking at me). Using these language patterns, students will begin to construct simple sentences while expanding their vocabulary and developing an understanding of how Italian sentence structure works.

To enhance their learning, students will also enjoy an interactive video reading of the story by Mr Oopy, whose engaging storytelling supports pronunciation, vocabulary development and comprehension. This interactive approach encourages students to participate, repeat key language and develop confidence in using Italian in an enjoyable and authentic context.

This unit aligns with the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Languages (Italian) by developing students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and responding to familiar texts. Through repeated exposure to language, students will build vocabulary, recognise simple grammatical patterns and use familiar words and phrases to communicate about animals and colours.

Learning Intention:Students will learn to recognise and use the Italian names for animals and colours, ask and answer simple questions about what they can see, and begin using basic Italian sentence structures.

MUSIC

What a great few weeks we have had in the Music Room. 

The Foundation and Year One students have been exploring movement and rhymes and really loving using the chime bars. Chime bars are tuned instruments and I use them to introduce composing and improvising in Year Foundation and Year One.

In Year Two this week - we used musical notation, as well as coloured icy pole sticks to represent different notes (Red is do or C, yellow is re or D, orange is mi or E). They created their own compostions using coloured bells and boomwhackers. The students worked so well together in groups, organising the sounds they wanted to create their piece of music and were so engaged in the task! Great work Year Two musicians - they earned 2 tokens in their class reward jar for such amazing teamwork. 

The Year 3-6 students have been really working hard to improve their skills in playing the ukulele after a break from playing in Term 2

I have been so impressed with their determination! 

Playing the ukulele actually isn't easy...as each hand works separately to the other...doing a different thing and to change chords requires fingers on one hand to move rapidly to different positions on the ukulele. 

Then we need to listen and play in time with others and then often sing-it's quite a brain workout!
