Writing Workshop with Will Kostakis
Mr Andrew Ericksen
On the 13th of August, acclaimed YA author, Will Kostakis, visited Greensborough College to deliver two writing workshops for our VCE and High Achievers students. A thoroughly witty and eloquent speaker, Will shared details of how he was able to secure a book deal whilst still in high school. Throughout his workshops, Will shared insights on his writing process and gave a range of tips for students to develop their own authorial voice.
Will explored the importance of linking sensory descriptions and specific language to help create relatable characters. At the end of his workshops, Will played a competition with students to give away copies of his novels. The winning students received signed copies of his work, including: Rebel Gods, Monuments, The Sidekicks & We Could Be Something.
"I found the workshop with Will interesting to hear from, particularly around his writing process and how to expand creative scenes in writing to further develop characters, scenery, and storytelling. Furthermore, His personal story about how he became an author is both funny and enlightening, and something I really resonated with. Overall, I found it incredibly helpful, both as a form of learning new techniques and reinforcing existing knowledge."
