Athletics Carnival

THS Athletics Carnival 2025 Recap

After a brief delay due to inclement weather, the much-anticipated THS Athletics Carnival was finally held on a sunny and vibrant Friday, 23rd May. Students arrived dressed in their House colours, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a healthy dose of competitive spirit to a full day of track and field events.

A special shoutout goes to the senior students, who embraced the “Aussie Icons” dress theme with flair and humour. Spectators were treated to the sight of Bananas in Pyjamas sprinting alongside Russell Coight, a jar of Vegemite, and the cast of Kath & Kim—an unforgettable display of school spirit.

The carnival kicked off with the boys’ 800m event while the girls tackled various field competitions. Despite time constraints shortening the final event, all scheduled competitions were completed with great success. The standard of athleticism on display was impressive, with many performances coming close to school records.

Two long-standing records were broken this year:

  • April Van Dyk set a new record in the Under 12/13 Girls High Jump, clearing 1.45m and surpassing Sophie Cooper’s 2010 mark of 1.40m. April’s talent promises exciting performances in future carnivals.
  • Toby Rolph broke the Under 15 Boys Discus record with a throw of 43.85m, topping the previous record of 41.64m held by Campbell Saccon.

A highlight of the day was the Jackson Clarke Memorial Sprint, honouring our 2024 School Captain and talented sprinter, Jackson Clarke. This handicapped 100m event features the fastest students from each year group, along with the next three fastest runners in each gender. With staggered starts, the race always delivers a thrilling finish—and this year was no exception. Congratulations to Elly Butler, who claimed the female title for the second year running, and Toby Rolph, who took out the male event.

Participation across all events was exceptional, with races and competitions fully attended and fiercely contested.
