Principal's Report

Our goal that every member of our community will learn and grow frames all the things we do at Nazareth College. We wish to give our students the best opportunities and we want to support our staff to support students in their learning. The Leadership Team took some time on Friday last week to articulate our vision, mission, values and goals. It is easy to loose site of the big picture when caught up in the maelstrom of school life, so this was a wonderful opportunity to remember where we are headed and what we need to prioritise. We discussed our key foci for 2026 and teased out what we need to do in order to fulfill our goals. Our key foci are:

  • Priority 1: Growing as a Missionary Faith Community
  • Priority 2: Quality Teaching and Learning
  • Priority 3: Strengthening Our Community Through Engagement and Empowerment

Faith, Mission and Outreach activities such as the sacramental program, St Anthony’s tutoring, the ACYF group, the Vinnies group and the Bible Study group are all ways we are growing as a Missionary Faith Community. We are focusing on Quality Teaching and Learning in the staff’s Professional Learning Communities. We are learning about explicit teaching techniques, as required in the MACS Vision for Instruction, and putting them into practice. We are strengthening our community through engagement and empowerment by concentrating on student leadership and parent focus groups. Teachers are improving engagement through consistent routines that promote safety, belonging and positive teacher–student relationships, in particular explicitly teaching respectful behaviour.

We would like to celebrate the achievements of two of our teachers, Ms Joy Singh and Ms Rosaria Pellegrino. They have both achieved HALT (Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher) certification. HALT certification is a voluntary, nationally recognized process for teachers who demonstrate a high level of expertise in the classroom. Rosaria achieved the level of Highly Accomplished teacher and Joy achieved the level of Lead Teacher. Joy attended a celebration at the Catholic Leadership Centre last week. Joy was presented with her certificate by Dr Mary Oski from MACS – a remarkable achievement by Joy.
