🌊 Year 9 Surf Camp – Anglesea 2026 🌞

What an incredible start to the week we had at our Year 9 Surf Camp in Anglesea! With perfect weather greeting us on arrival, close to 150 students headed off to the beautiful Surf Coast ready for three action-packed days of challenge, fun and growth.

After a quick camp set-up, groups were already making their way down to the beach, eager to test themselves in the waves. With double the surfing time this year and mini buses transporting students between locations, everyone had more opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy the ocean. Some students were even beginning to look like the next Mick Fanning or Stephanie Gilmore!

One of the true highlights of the camp was the outstanding student participation. Our focus on “Opt In” meant students embraced every opportunity, challenged themselves and supported one another. The night walk on the first night too was also a highlight for many of our students, as they got to run around, and just be kids on the beach – as the sun set!!

Across the three days, students participated in:

Raft Building
Giant Swing
Vertical Challenge
Mountain Biking
Radio Rogaine
Initiative activities and general camp recreation

These experiences not only built surfing skills, but also resilience, teamwork, leadership and confidence.

To recognise the incredible effort, teamwork and positive spirit shown throughout the 3-days, each activity group also presented a Group Award to one student who consistently demonstrated our camp values. A massive congratulations to the following students: Asher Stockdale, John Audy, Kasiana Odwazny, Nicholas Roberts, Gerald Ung, Nenad Vukosavljevic, Abbey Norman, Gian Le Mercier-Guan, Lucas Pham, Jack Sheward.

As my first year-level camp (after many years taking smaller Outdoor & Environmental Studies groups away), it was an incredible experience and a true team effort.

Ralish Meas

Congratulations to Ralish Meas on achieving an outstanding ATAR score

above 90.

Ralish has accomplished this remarkable result while studying as an international student from Cambodia. His perseverance, resilience, and dedication to his studies have been truly inspiring to both students and teachers alike.

We are incredibly proud of his achievement and wish him every success as he begins his undergraduate studies in Nursing at Monash University. We look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish in the years ahead.

Year 7 Swimming

The Year 7 Swimming and Water Safety Program was run earlier this term in February at Monash Aquatic Pools in Glen Waverley.

This year saw the highest participation rate among Year 7’s since reopening post Covid.

We saw 176 students jump in the pool and be assessed, 94% of the cohort of 188, an increase of 20% on last year.

The highlight for many being the Water Safety Lesson on the Friday which no doubt educated the students on the risks of drowning and how to effectively help someone drowning safely. This was due to the support of parents, willingness of students to participate fully and staff encouraging, assisting and helping get permissions, medical forms and students to the buses on time.

A great big Thank you to all Staff who assisted especially the Yr. 7 HPE teachers who took the students to the pools and made it so enjoyable.

Technology - Year 7 Textiles

The Year 7 Textiles students, for their first assessment, were asked to come up with a creative and decorative presentation of text and images for a front cover. The design brief required them to highlight the word ‘Textiles’ and decorate it with equipment and objects commonly found in the textiles room. Their work needed to be creative, to demonstrate attention to detail, have strong visual appeal, and reflect a high level of thoughtfulness and artistic execution.

This encouraged students to showcase their artistic skills while following a clear design brief and gaining a better understanding of the equipment in the textiles room. Below are some of the noteworthy works that successfully met the brief.

VCE Visual Communication Design (Unit 1)

VCE Visual Communication Design (VCD) Unit 1 students have just submitted their first VCE Outcome for VCD. They were provided with the theme of “Personal Organisation” as a starting point to explore.

From this, students conducted Human Centred Research Methods, such as Interviews and Surveys, to obtain data, and build empathy and understanding towards this theme from other perspectives.

They then collated and synthesised their data to create an Infographic to visualise their learnings. Please take a look below of the informative Infographics that the students have produced.
