 Year 3/4 News

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been focusing on long vowel sounds and the spelling patterns that represent them. This week, we revised these sounds, and it has been pleasing to see students’ growing confidence when applying the spelling rules in their writing and word work. We have also been learning about different parts of speech, including adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs, and students are becoming more confident in identifying and using these in sentences. Students have recently begun planning a narrative, which they will continue to draft and develop over the coming weeks.

Numeracy

In Mathematics, we have focused on addition and subtraction to further strengthen these important foundation skills. Students have been learning a range of strategies to help them solve problems, including using inverse operations, partitioning numbers and estimating to check the reasonableness of their answers.

Resilience Project

We are learning to understand the meaning of empathy and identify the values and qualities of empathy.

Other News

Last week the Grade 4 students participated in a Webex that was conducted by the Kids Helpline. The session was called ‘Being Kind Online’ and students learned about ways they can use online platforms respectfully and responsibly. Students discussed ways to be kind online and explored strategies around seeking help if they experience disrespectful behaviour on digital platforms.
