GYMNASTICS
As part of the Sporting Schools Program, we will welcome back Gary from Moving Monkeys who will conduct daily gymnastic sessions next week from Monday 16th to Thursday 19th March. Each class will take part in four sessions throughout the week. To help the sessions run smoothly and in a timely fashion, students are asked to please leave jewellery items at home on these days. It is also recommended that no dresses/skirts are worn on these days (leggings, shorts, trackpants are preferred). Students with long hair are asked to arrive with hair tied back. All students are required to wear school uniform and to bring their lunch, snack and drink as per usual. The canteen will still operate for lunch orders on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
Thank you in advance, Jackson.
NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM
Students continue to be busy in the Art room, working on ocean based pieces in preparation for some of these to be displayed in our Art Exhibition to be held in Term 3. It has been wonderful to see their artworks develop. Art Club is also proving to be very popular during Tuesday lunchtime and it's great to see so many students enjoying this extra opportunity to be creative.
It is also wonderful to see how well the students tidy up the Art room at the end of each session, especially in recent weeks when we have been using oil pastels and paint. Not only are the students always demonstrating Creativity in the Art room, they also displaying acts of Community as well by helping each other and ensuring the Art room is tidy for the next class. Thank you everybody!
STEM NEWS
In the P-2 area students have been applying their knowledge of materials and their features to complete a range of mini experiments. This week students enjoyed re-creating the famous “Three Little Pigs” house build. They were given a material to create a strong wind-free house. The Big Bad Wolf (a fan) was then used to test the strength of each house. Students enjoyed comparing designs and materials.
In the 3/4 area, students have begun to plan and design a toy/game that would be suitable for a school aged child. They were required to do some research to find something that was fun and appealing to them, but safe and suitable for the age. They did a great job using a variety of materials in their designs. See below for some examples.
The 5/6 students have continued to explore Energy with the focus moving into Solar Energy. Students conducted a small research task on Solar Energy before creating a small-scale Solar Pizza Oven. Students enjoyed testing the suns energy (heat and light) to cook s’mores. Students have now moved into Electrical Energy where they are learning about closed loop circuits and building light and fan with an off/on switch.
