As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding fortnight at Mitcham Primary School, there is certainly plenty to celebrate and look forward to.

Celebrating 100 Days of Prep

Last Friday, our Prep students marked a very special milestone as they celebrated 100 Days of School. It was wonderful to see so many creative costumes, smiling faces and excited learners proudly recognising just how much they have grown over their first 100 days of primary school. The celebration was a fantastic reminder of the confidence, friendships and learning that our youngest students have developed in such a short time. Congratulations to our Prep students and teachers!

MitchKids Playgroup

Today marks the final session of our MitchKids Playgroup for the year. It has been wonderful to welcome so many families into our school throughout the year and to watch our future Prep students become increasingly familiar and comfortable in the school environment.

I would also like to say a big thank you to our wonderful Grade 4 students who have supported our visiting preschoolers at Mitchkids. They have been exceptional big buddies, showing kindness, patience and genuine care as they helped our youngest visitors feel welcome at Mitcham Primary School. They have been outstanding ambassadors for our school, and we are very proud of the positive example they have set. We know they will be beautiful Grade 5 Buddies to our Preps next year.

A reminder that Prep enrolments close this evening. Families will receive enrolment offers on Monday, after which we will begin our formal Prep Transition Program, commencing on Friday 19 August. We are incredibly excited to welcome our newest cohort of bright, curious and enthusiastic little people to Mitcham Primary School next year. We know they will quickly become valued members of our wonderful school community, and we look forward to supporting them as they begin their school journey.

Getting Ready for Hat Season

With winter soon coming to a close, it is also time for us to start thinking about sun safety. At Mitcham Primary School, SunSmart is a shared responsibility, and staff, parents and students are all encouraged to implement a combination of sun protection measures whenever UV levels reach 3 or above. While the cooler mornings may not always feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be high enough to cause sun damage.

Our SunSmart Policy requires students to wear school hats from mid-August through until the end of April. To help everyone ease back into the routine, we encourage families to begin packing hats in school bags and for students to start wearing them from next week. Please note that we will not begin enforcing the wearing of hats until the week commencing 17 August, allowing families time to locate or purchase hats and re-establish the habit before it becomes a requirement.

Grade 3 and 4 Camp Arrabri

Looking ahead to next week, our Grade 3 and Grade 4 students will be heading to Camp Arrabri in Warburton for a two-night adventure beginning on Monday. For many of our students, this will be their very first camp experience away from home, and while there may be a few nervous butterflies, I can confidently reassure families that they are in for a fantastic time. Camp Arrabri is always one of my favourite school camps, offering wonderful outdoor adventures, cosy cabins, delicious food and countless opportunities for students to build confidence, independence and friendships. I wish all of our Grade 3 and 4 students an amazing camp and look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return.
